This is an interesting one. Koreshan Historic State Park preserves the site of a historic utopian community, the Koreshan Unity. Dr. Cyrus Teed and his 200 followers established the settlement in Southwest Florida in the 1890s. The community thrived for over a decade and they established multiple businesses, constructed over 70 buildings, and acquired nearly 7500 acres of land. The land for the park was donated to the state in 1961 by the last remaining 4 members.

Today the park is home to 11 historic buildings, gardens, nature trails, campsites, and part of the Estero River. You can take a 1.5 hour guided tour (offered throughout the week and weekend for $10 per person) or explore on your own. Most of the structures have informative signs detailing their history and uses. There’s also a collection of artifacts and a video playing inside the Founders House.

The short and shady River Trail is really scenic with lots of bamboo planted by the community members. The rest of the site is very sunny so bring your sun protection and water!

Today at Three Sisters Springs 💦❄️🤿

It’s been a chilly few weeks (with more to come!) and the manatees are seeking refuge in the warm spring waters. It’s the perfect time to see these gentle giants floating around the springs! Three Sisters in the Crystal River National Wildlife Refuge is a great place to see them from the boardwalk!

It was busy today even for a weekday- I’d definitely recommend getting there early on a weekend and having a backup plan in case you can’t find parking right away.
