EVERYONE at Keener Township EMS would like to thank EMT William Mezzacapo for his service and dedication to our community! Bill recently decided to leave us for free time and family and though we do not necessarily like it, we understand it.

Bill is the guy who woke up at 2 am, on his day off, after working his scheduled shifts because the duty crew was already on another call and someone needed help. His views, opinions, stories and cooking entertained us, kept us full and will be missed (especially his slow cooked ribs)!

We wish him the very best! Thank you Mezzo!

A message from Dr. Marianne Nelson, Jasper County health officer:

As many of you may already know we appeared orange on the color coded Covid-19 state map as of October 20th. The orange color represents a medium to high risk of community spread to our county. It is calculated based on two factors, the first being the county’s 7-day positivity rate and the second being the number of cases weekly per 100,000 residents.

Our goal is to decrease the spread of the virus, keep everyone safe, keep our schools and businesses open, and continue keeping the children active in sports. The way to decrease our numbers is to continue to wear masks, social distance, and practice good hand hygiene. We are asking everyone to continue to be diligent when out in public, please wear your masks, social distance, and wash your hands.

Starting today, we are asking that everyone limit their participation in large social gatherings and we’ve made the decision to limit the number of spectators at our school sporting events. The schools will allow two (2) tickets per athlete which includes athletes on both the home and away team. We are asking for no student cheering section, no cheerleaders, and no band participation at this time. Masks must be worn at all times during these events per the state mask mandate. Please remember that by wearing your masks and practicing social distancing, this will help keep our schools open and allow the children to participate in sports.

We thank all of you for doing your part in keeping our community safe!

Through wiser spending and utilization of our existing budget for 2019 and 2020 coupled with an excellent working relationship with the Keener Township Trustee and Advisory Board, we were able to update necessary equipment.

Photoed: Two 2019 Ford Ambulance’s outfitted with new radios. Two power cots. A stair chair and various loose equipment.

Much thanks and appreciation to our township officials for assuring we have the best equipment to care for our community!

EMS Week Throwback Thursday:

The foundation of our service today, was laid by local volunteer EMT's who dedicated their lives to provided EMS services to our community (1975-2006). They deserve more than a post on Facebook thanking them for their service and dedication. This EMS week we would like to recognize, honor, thank and in some cases remember the staff who built this service.
