The DeSoto Police Department will be enforcing a zero-tolerance policy on Friday, April 29, 2022. This is in response to the uptick in crime in our city. "Zero tolerance" means citations, arrests, and impoundments will be conducted with little to no consideration for warnings.

Officers will be operating in several areas of the city throughout the evening and into the night. These include areas such as East Pleasant Run Rd. from Polk St. to I35E., East Wintergreen Rd. from Polk St. to I35E., and all along the I35E service road.

Help us congratulate our Chief, Ely Reyes. Earlier this week, while attending the Texas Police Chiefs conference, Chief Reyes received the Innovation award for his innovation and creativity in finding ways to connect with the community. Chief Reyes created the Neighborhood Walk which allows members on the police department along with other city officials to go door to door, bringing city services to our residents. Chief Reyes credits the Cedar Hill PACT Unit for scheduling and planning each walk. Congratulations to our PACT Unit and especially Chief Reyes!!!!

April is 9-1-1 Education Month. Take some time to teach your children what to do in an emergency. Here are a few tips:

1. Remain calm
2. Speak clearly
3. Give the 9-1-1 call taker the address where help is needed
4. Stay on the phone and answer the call takers questions. don't hang up until the call taker tells you to do so.
5. Keep yourself safe

Cell Phone Sally teaches children how to use 9-1-1 when they need police, the fire department, or an ambulance in a video called 9-1-1: Getting Help Is Easy. Check it out!

DESOTO POLICE RESPOND TO FRIDAY AFTERNOON FIGHTS AT DESOTO HS

DeSoto Police (DPD) were called to DeSoto High School shortly after 12:30 PM Friday after being notified about a fight in progress.

School Resource Officers and other DeSoto Police Officers responded to observe multiple fights in progress. Several juvenile students were briefly detained and released to their parents on the scene. One 17-year-old student, who was allegedly interfering with police operations, was pepper-sprayed by officers. He was treated at the scene by paramedics, formally charged with interference with public duties, and then transported to the DeSoto Regional Jail.

Police remained on the scene until classes ended at 3:20 pm to deter additional conflicts and to ensure the safety of Desoto ISD students and staff.
