The Dearborn Heights City Hall will be closed to the public on Wednesday, August 12, Thursday, August 13, and Monday, August 17 until 12:00 PM, as the City completes the final steps of a major upgrade designed to make doing business with the City faster and easier.

Dearborn Heights is moving its financial and service systems to a new cloud-based platform, an investment that will bring residents more reliable service, improved online access, and faster processing once the system is fully in place. City employees will be in training and preparing the new system throughout the week of August 10 through 13, which requires a brief pause in walk-in service on August 12 and 13. During this same week, employees will also undergo emergency preparedness training and fire drills.

The new system goes live Monday, August 17 at 12:00 PM, at which time normal City Hall operations will resume and open to residents.

Residents can contact City Hall at (313) 791-3400 or visit DearbornHeightsMI.gov.

Dearborn Heights Fire Department Receives $2,000 Donation from Rotary Club for Knox Box Program

DEARBORN HEIGHTS, MI — The Dearborn Heights Fire Department, in partnership with the Rotary Club of Dearborn Heights, gratefully accepted a generous $2,000 donation from Rotary in support of the Knox Box program.

The Knox Box program is intended for seniors and members of our community with mobility issues, allowing the Fire Department to gain access to a resident’s home in an emergency when that resident may not be able to reach the front door. The device is a small, secure box mounted near a home’s entrance that holds a key, giving firefighters and paramedics quick access without the need to force entry, reducing response time in critical moments when every second counts for our senior residents.

Applications for the Knox Box program can be completed through the Parks and Recreation Department at the Canfield Center. Once an application is approved, it will be forwarded to the Dearborn Heights Fire Department Fire Prevention Division for installation.

“Every second matters in an emergency, and this program lets us reach our seniors and residents with mobility challenges faster, without having to force our way into a home,” said Fire Chief Phil Hall. “We’re grateful to the Rotary Club for helping us expand a program that truly saves lives.”

The City of Dearborn Heights thanks the Rotary Club of Dearborn Heights for their continued support of programs that keep our residents safe.

For more information on the Knox Box program or to apply, residents can contact the Parks and Recreation Department at the Canfield Center.

Great work in Dearborn Heights starts with a great foundation, and permits are step one.

Quality contractors know that getting the required permits is the first step in every successful project. They follow approved plans, comply with state and City codes, schedule inspections, and work closely with the Building Department throughout construction. Their commitment to quality workmanship keeps homes safe, structurally sound, and up to code, protecting homeowners and preserving the long term value of our neighborhoods.

We thank all of the outstanding professional contractors who follow the rules and are proud to have them working in our city. We sincerely appreciate you for setting the standard for professionalism, integrity, craftsmanship, and excellence in our community. Your dedication to doing the job right helps keep our residents safe and strengthens our neighborhoods.

For questions about permits or starting a project, contact the Building Department at (313) 791-3470

We’re taking a zero tolerance approach to properties that aren’t being maintained, but we’re also here to help. Our Ordinance Department spends time out in the neighborhood talking with residents, offering solutions, and working together to keep Dearborn Heights looking great.

Every neighborhood deserves to look its best, and that starts with each home on the block. We’re doing our part, and we need you to do yours too.

If you see a property that isn’t being maintained, say something. Report it to our Ordinance Department at (313) 791-3497. (Comments here are not monitored by the Ordinance Department.)

Mayor’s Tip: Mix white vinegar, salt, and dish soap to get rid of weeds.

Parking will be limited during construction. All vehicles must be off the street before work begins each day (hours are 7 AM to 7 PM). Driveway access will be very limited during removal of the old roadway and prep of the new stone base, and there will be no driveway access during placement and curing of new concrete. Plan to park any needed vehicles elsewhere in advance. Parking on nearby streets will be permitted.

Expect traffic delays as trucks move in and out of the area. Trash pick-up continues on your regular day unless residents are notified otherwise. Police, fire, and rescue will be notified of construction activity, and emergency access will be maintained at all times.

The contractor will protect sprinkler heads near the curb when possible and repair any that must be removed. Please flag or mark sprinkler heads near the street and turn off sprinkler zones along the roadway during construction.

Questions or concerns during construction, contact Wade-Trim:
