Chartered in 1888, CSPH’s mission is to maintain a family environment that fosters the physical, educational, social-emotional, and spiritual development of each child. CSPH is a private, nonprofit and non-discriminatory child caring agency that provides community-based child we

lfare services including supportive education, health & wellness programs and 24-hour, state approved residency for vulnerable youth. The 35 acre campus is located in the Adamsville neighborhood and has an administration building, five cottages where the youth live, a dining room, two outdoor play areas, a meadow for large group/team activities, and a pavilion for cook outs. The 27,155 square foot Ollivette Eugenia Smith Allison Life Learning Center is fully equipped with a five lane/25yrd indoor swimming pool, a gymnasium, a chapel, computer lab, classrooms, a kitchen and multipurpose room. Residential Care – Adolescents 12-18 years old
The residential care program at the Home includes basic daily care up to 20 youth; therapeutic programming to meet the increased needs of adolescents in foster care, a fitness/nutrition program and adaptive supportive educational services. The youth that live at CSPH are faced with greater psychological, educational, emotional and health challenges than in past years. Residential Care – Older youth 18-24 years old
CSPH has recently received approval from the Department of Children and Families to participate in an initiative called the Independent Living Program. This program allows the older adolescent to stay at the Home in a structured living arrangement and ensure that they are self-sufficient by age twenty-four. The older teens living at CSPH follow a comprehensive Independent Living curriculum designed to increase their life skills and prepare them for young adulthood. Programs offered to the Community
CSPH’s community program evolved from the comprehensive programming offered to the youth in the residential program and the recognition that the families in the community need a safe caring environment for their children while they are at work. CSPH has the breadth and depth of experience in the child care industry to design and deliver high quality education and fitness program to address the community’s current needs. August 28 holds a powerful place in our nation’s history—from the March on Washington in 1963 to the continued fight for racial equity, opportunity, and justice. This date reminds us of the power of people coming together to create change.

This year, on , we’re joining organizations across the nation to celebrate and support Black-led and Black-benefitting nonprofits working to strengthen communities and expand opportunity.

At Carrie Steele-Pitts Home, our story dates back to 1888, when Carrie Steele Logan chartered our organization with a vision to provide care, opportunity, and a brighter future for children.

More than a century later, that legacy continues to shape our commitment to investing in youth and creating opportunities for the next generation.

For 138 years, Carrie Steele-Pitts Home has been part of a legacy of Black leadership, care, and community.

Black philanthropy is more than giving. It is investing in people, creating opportunity, building institutions, and making sure the next generation has what it needs to thrive.

Recently, while exploring our archives, we found this powerful reflection from J.H., a former resident:

“What is a home?
What kind of question is that?
It’s a comforting place, with a big welcome mat.
Where is my home?
Ha!—where is yours?
My home is Carrie Steele—it’s two times better than yours.”

Those words remind us that philanthropy is ultimately about people. It is about creating places where young people feel safe, valued, supported, and able to imagine a future beyond their circumstances.

For generations, Black communities have invested in the well-being and future of our children. That legacy continues today.

As we celebrate Black Philanthropy Month, we honor the donors, advocates, community leaders, partners, and changemakers who believe that every young person deserves a place to belong—and who continue to invest in Georgia’s youth.

🎉 Celebrating 27 Years of Dedication: Congratulations, Ms. Denise! 💙

For 27 years, Ms. Denise has been a dedicated and familiar face at Carrie Steele-Pitts Home, serving as our Business Manager and helping keep the organization moving forward behind the scenes.

At the end of June, Ms. Denise officially retired, beginning a well-deserved new chapter. On Saturday, staff, former staff, family, friends, and former residents gathered together to celebrate her incredible career and the lasting impact she has made over nearly three decades.

The celebration was filled with good food, laughter, memories, and plenty of love. Guests even put their knowledge of Ms. Denise to the test with a fun “Who Knows the Retiree Best?” game, followed by heartfelt words and reflections from those whose lives she has touched throughout the years.

While we will certainly miss having Ms. Denise as part of our day-to-day team, we are grateful for the 27 years of commitment, service, wisdom, and care she gave to Carrie Steele-Pitts Home and the young people and families connected to our organization.

✨ Our Legacy. Their Future. ✨

Before there was an organization, there was a vision.

Ms. Carrie Steele believed children deserved care, compassion, and a place to belong. An emancipated slave who worked as a maid at the Atlanta railroad, Ms. Steele dedicated herself to caring for children who had been abandoned and left without support.

In 1888, she chartered the Carrie Steele-Pitts Orphan Home, transforming her compassion into a lasting legacy of Black-led community care.

More than 137 years later, that legacy continues through Carrie Steele-Pitts Home as we support youth impacted by foster care with opportunities to build life skills, explore careers, develop confidence, and prepare for their futures.

This Black Philanthropy Month, we honor the woman who started it all and the community that has carried her vision forward.

137 years ago, Ms. Carrie Steele believed every child deserved care, opportunity, and a place to belong.

An emancipated slave who dedicated her life to serving children, Ms. Carrie Steele compassion became the foundation for what is now Carrie Steele-Pitts Home.

Her vision continues today through the youth we serve, the programs we provide, and the community that helps carry this mission forward.

This Black Philanthropy Month, we’re honoring where we began and celebrating the future we’re building together.

Carrie Steele-Pitts Home kicked off the back-to-school season with an incredible Back-to-School Bash, welcoming more than 60 youth from elementary school through college for a day filled with fun, connection, and encouragement!

Thank you to the True Church of Living Faith for hosting our event.This event was the first step toward our goal of providing back-to-school resources to 100 youth across Georgia through additional events and program activities throughout the month.

Youth enjoyed a day full of arts and crafts, games, dancing, Double Dutch, team-building activities, and plenty of laughter. One of the highlights was our “Old School vs. New School” dance battle, where the old school team took home the victory! Youth even had the opportunity to teach Carrie Steele-Pitts Home Executive Director Ms. Mitchell a new dance move creating a moment of joy, connection, and community.

Thank you to everyone who helped make this celebration possible and continues to support youth impacted by foster care. Together, we are ensuring children and young adults across Georgia have the resources, confidence, and encouragement they need to thrive. 💙

Carrie Steele-Pitts Home kicked off the back-to-school season with an incredible Back-to-School Bash, welcoming more than 60 youth from elementary school through college for a day filled with fun, connection, and encouragement!

Thanks to the generous support of Citizens Trust Bank , for collecting backpacks and supplies through their Stuffed with Trust Back-to-School Donation Drive. This event was the first step toward our goal of providing back-to-school resources to 100 youth across Georgia through additional events and program activities throughout the month.

Youth enjoyed a day full of arts and crafts, games, dancing, Double Dutch, team-building activities, and plenty of laughter.
