Simply put: the Education Freedom Tax Credit would make career and technical education programs more accessible for Illinois students, setting them up for success in the workforce. Not only is this a win for our students pursuing the trades, but it builds up the work force for job creators, and helps our communities grow. The hold up: Gov. Pritzker opting Illinois in to the program.

Manufacturers in Elk Grove Village, construction firms in DuPage County and automotive shops throughout the suburbs share a common challenge: finding workers with the technical skills to fill availabl...

Illinois’ estate tax needs serious reform to help farm families keep their land for generations to come. Currently, there is a bipartisan proposal that I am a co-sponsor of that seeks to raise the estate tax exemption from $4 million to $6 million to allow more families to keep their farms, but unfortunately that measure has been sitting in the Rules Committee with no actual pressure to move the bill in this upcoming Veto Session. With most farms being owned by families, we must do something now.

The president of the Illinois Farm Bureau says he’s optimistic that the state’s farmers could soon see estate tax relief. Phillip Nelson, who farms in LaSalle County, says Governor J.B. Pritzker and other state leaders are voicing their support for the Family Farm Preservation Act. “I was very...

Illinois is set to receive a nearly $768 million settlement from Meta over allegations that Facebook and Instagram were designed to be addictive to children. The agreement with Meta includes new safeguards for young users such as time limits, stronger age verification, and expanded parental controls.

Illinois will receive nearly $768 million from a landmark Meta lawsuit settlement over social media addiction, Attorney General Kwame Raoul announced Wednesday.

On this day, 208 years ago, Illinois’ first constitution was adopted in Kaskaskia, establishing the founding of our great state. Illinois would then go on to adopt three more constitutions, with the latest being adopted in 1970. Happy Constitution Day!

My thoughts and prayers are with Dolly Parton’s family and friends as they navigate this devastating time. The icon was known for more than her award-winning country music, but also for her efforts to foster a love of reading early on through the Dolly Parton Imagination Library. The service mailed one free book a month to households with children who were 5 years old and under. It is a great resource that serves nearly 3 million children. The irrepressible country music singer, songwriter and actress whose charisma, heartfelt lyrics and business acumen captured the public's imagination for nearly six decades, died on Tuesday, her family said in a statement.

A state court in Maryland has struck down their new digital advertising tax, siding with companies who challenged the law. This ruling should serve as a warning to Illinois Democrats who implemented a similar tax to balance the budget for Fiscal Year 2027. Instead of focusing on creating a pro-business state, Illinois continues to toe the line of legality, further leaving our state in fiscal disarray.

Opinion: State taxes on digital advertising aren't necessarily unviable, but Maryland made a harder legal case for itself by seemingly designing a tax around the companies it wanted to pay instead of the activity it wanted to tax.

Following the many damaging storms that have blown through Illinois during the recent months, the Governor signed a proclamation to bring relief to affected communities. McLean County was named in the proclamation, with Bloomington-Normal being hit the hardest. Today, I stopped and visited the State Farm relief site in Bloomington, meeting with representatives from the insurance company that are helping customers navigate next steps. I applaud State Farm for being accessible to residents and businesses during the cleanup period.

Eligible communities in McLean County may apply for disaster response funding through the Dept. of Commerce and Economic Opportunity’s Community Development Block Grant, using the link below. If there is anything my office can help with at this time, please don’t hesitate to reach out by calling (217) 876-1968 or visiting RepDeering.com.

On Wednesday, the Illinois Toll approved a $0.45 toll increase on passenger vehicles beginning in January 1, to help pay for a massive $26.5 billion capital spending plan. This increase will be automatic every two years, to adjust for the cost of living. Commercial drivers will be hit the hardest, facing a 30% increase on tolls, leading to increased costs for businesses—something Illinois doesn’t need considering our massive outmigration of employers.

This increase is absurd, shifting costs to downstate Illinoisans and tourists instead of targeting the root problem of the perpetual tax and spend cycle of Chicago and Illinois government.

The Illinois Tollway Board on Wednesday approved a massive 15-year, $26.5 billion capital spending plan that will raise vehicle tolls beginning next year.

An illegal immigrant in the southwest suburbs was released on electronic monitoring after being charged with eight counts of possessing an unregistered destructive device. Police allegedly found eight Molotov cocktails and a handwritten map in his backpack. He was free for two days before federal agents took him into custody on federal charges. Illinois’ public safety laws should keep dangerous individuals off our streets, not give them another opportunity to put our communities at risk.

Hamed Alsaidi, 31, was charged with eight counts of possessing an unregistered destructive device.

I was pleased to be presented with the Friend of Agriculture Award from the Illinois Farm Bureau. Thank you to Macon County Farm Bureau, for the presentation and all you do for agriculture and our farming communities. I am honored to receive this recognition and proud to serve such an agriculture-rich district that leads the way in corn and soybean production, feeding families all over the world.
