Went for a run this morning and passed by the next phase of the Foxwood area! 🏃‍♂️

I know several community residents have been asking what’s being built over here lately.

Just a quick update: Late last year, the City Council approved the final maps and subdivision agreements for the next phase of housing by San Joaquin Valley homes, right south of Avenida Castro, between Hiett Ave and Albany St (check out the public tract maps). They’ve been making quick progress coming from Albany Street. My second picture is from Hiett Avenue.

Also, I got to run into one of my all-time faves from high school, Jerry!

Bicycle and Pedestrian Safety Operation Planned for September 4th, 2026

Delano, Calif. – The Delano Police Department will conduct a traffic safety operation on September 4th, 2026, from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m., focused on the most dangerous driver behaviors that put the safety of people biking or walking at risk.

These violations include speeding, making illegal turns, failing to yield or provide right of way to bicyclists or pedestrians, or failing to stop for signs and signals.

“We all have places to be and not everyone gets there by car,” Chief Jerry Nicholson said. “Bicyclists and pedestrians have the same rights to the road but face even more risk without the protections vehicles have. We should all be looking out for one another.”

Funding for this program is provided by a grant from the California Office of Traffic Safety, through the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration.

Glad to connect with Chief Nicholson after today’s council meeting to discuss recent constituent concerns around pedestrian safety and speeding. I appreciated hearing about potential approaches so that the city can more efficiently identify where safety improvements should be prioritized. I also asked today that we receive a public update in the coming months on street-safety projects and next steps.

As we head into the end of July, I wanted to share a quick update on our latest Delano infrastructure project 🚧

Since my colleagues appointed me to represent Delano at the Kern Council of Governments (Kern COG) last year, I’ve been tracking our long-standing project with Caltrans and Kern COG, and, as many of you may have seen.. construction on the State Route 155 (Garces Hwy) rehab project officially kicked off earlier this month!

Caltrans and Security Paving are overhauling the stretch from Fremont Street to just west of Browning Road. The project includes:
- A repaved roadway
- New sidewalks and ADA-compliant curb ramps
- Dedicated bike lanes
- Upgraded bus shelters
- A traffic signal at Lexington Street

There will be some traffic impacts while the work is happening over the coming months, so thank you in advance for your patience during construction. Please drive safe and remember to slow down for the cone zones while crews are out there.

Thank you, Caltrans District 6 and Kern COG!🙏🏽
