🚨SCAM ALERT🚨

The Delta County Sheriff's Office has been notified of a scam circulating in which individuals are falsely identifying themselves as "Sgt. Joe Anderson," and claiming citizens failed to report for jury duty. They instruct them to pay a fine or a warrant for their arrest will be issued.

Please remember: The Sheriff's Office is NOT involved in jury selection, and we will NEVER contact you demanding payment for anything, including missing jury duty.

No matter the scam, the tactics always remain the same: Using fear to create a sense of urgency:

‼"You have a warrant."
‼"Police are coming to arrest you."
‼"Pay right now."

They follow these scare tactics with demands for payments in the form of gift cards, Venmo (similar cash apps), or bitcoin.💰

If you receive one of these calls ALWAYS:

📞 Hang up
🔗Never click links in email or text messages
🚫Never send money to strangers
☎️Call someone you trust BEFORE sending money

If you're ever unsure, call DCSO through our non-emergency line at 970-874-2015. We are here to help and answer any questions you have to stop the scams before they take your money.🤝

Delta County Alert - Hwy 50 Detour for Paving Operations Starting 5/27.
This is Delta County Emergency Management sharing an important traffic impact for Wednesday, May 27th for the City of Delta. CO Department of Transportation has asked that we share the below message about paving in the City of Delta which will impact travel on US 50 near City Market on the South bound lanes of US 50

Traffic Impacts for the week of May 27-29, 2026
On Wednesday, May 27, the US 50 paving team will close US 50 south of Confluence Drive to the CO 92 intersection to mill and pave this section of highway. Motorists traveling south (towards Montrose) on US 50 into Delta will be detoured to Confluence Drive. All the businesses along Confluence Drive will have access remain open for their customers and flaggers will be positioned to support congestion in the area. The north side of US 50 (towards Grand Junction) will remain open. This work is anticipated to be completed by the end of the week.

DETOUR ROUTE:
Motorists traveling on US 50 to Montrose should take the detour on Confluence Drive to the south until it intersects with US 50 on the south end of Delta.

Motorists traveling from Grand Junction on US 50 to the Cedaredge, Orchard City, North Fork Valley or other locations along CO Hwy 92 should take Confluence drive until the intersection with Palmer Street. Motorists should then take a left on Palmer St until the intersection with 1st Street. A left turn (east) onto 1st Street will allow motorists to continue onto Hwy 92. This route will also enable motorists to reach Downtown Delta businesses.

Travel Impacts
-Daytime work hours will be 7 a.m. to 7 p.m., Monday through Friday
- Vehicles will be reduced to a single-lane, alternating traffic intermittently in either direction, throughout the duration of the project
-Lane closures, guided by flaggers, will have up to 15-minute delays
-The speed limit will be reduced to 40 mph through the work zone
-The project is expected to last until the middle of July

Landline Issues Across Delta County - Non-Emergency Dispatch and County Lines affected

Tuesday, May 26, 2026

Delta County Dispatch and the Sheriff’s Office have been advised of a telephone routing issue where landline phones in Delta County are having issues calling into non-emergency dispatch, Delta County offices and potentially other landline or voice over IP phone systems in the County. Landline based phones from homes and businesses may receive a busy signal or inability to connect when calling Delta County Government extensions including non-emergency dispatch (970-874-2015).

Cell phones do not appear to be affected and are able to call county extensions and dispatch without issue. If you are using a landline and your call does not connect or you get a busy signal, please try your call again or place a call from a cell phone. There are no issues affecting 9-1-1 and if you need emergency assistance from police, Sheriff, fire and/or EMS and cannot get through on the non-emergency dispatch line (970-874-2015), please dial 9-1-1.

We do not have any additional information at this time but have reached out to telephone providers in the area and asked them to investigate the routing issue. If you are experiencing issues with your landline service, please contact your phone service provider.

Thank you.

Yesterday’s graduation of law enforcement cadets from the Technical College of the Rockies class 26-1 was a time of celebration and reflection.🎓

DCSO’s very own Hope Wagner was among the graduates, and we couldn’t be prouder of the work she did to earn her badge. Beginning as a jail custodian five years ago, then becoming a member of our detentions staff, and finally earning her spot at the academy to become a detentions deputy — Hope was presented her badge from Sheriff Taylor while surrounded by friends and family at yesterday’s pinning ceremony.

The journey for these cadets has just begun as they depart with training and skills learned during the academy, but more importantly, the values of integrity, determination, strength, compassion, and empathy that shapes their character and embodies the spirit of the communities they serve.

Sheriff Taylor’s address provided a poignant reminder for the cadets to always practice humility in everything they do; respect is earned, not granted; trust is built not given. Routine days will become monumental in a matter of seconds and they are the guardians of our communities who have answered a calling to stand between civilization and chaos.

Please join us in congratulating Hope and all her fellow graduates, as we wish them all the best in the next chapter of their journeys.🤝
