West Central Alabama AHEC attended Improving Rural Health Together: Insights to Impact Grantee Meeting in Decatur, Georgia on May 13-14, 2026. The meeting served as an opportunity for West Central's AlaR.I.S.E. Maternal Care Coordination Program to network and share information on the program's success. In addition to the meeting being so informative and interactive, the AlaR.I.S.E team was one of three organizations chosen by a group of over 120 peers to sit on the Community Sparks Panel to discuss program impact in their respected states and communities. AlaR.I.S.E. Project Director, Adrian Collier shared program highlights on how West Central Alabama AHEC is leading the charge on improving and increasing access to care in Alabama communities. Deputy Director of Public Health Programs Liza Nicholson and Project Director Adrian Collier attended the two-day event.

We are continuing to build the future of healthcare right here in West Alabama through the Health Professions Academy (HPA).

HPA gives high school students real exposure to healthcare careers through hands on experiences, college visits, and direct connections with professionals in the field.

This program is about more than awareness; it’s about creating a pathway.

If you are interested in learning more about HPA or getting involved, reach out. We are always looking to expand opportunities for our students.
