You may remember that 9-year-old Tre ran a lemonade stand last month and wanted to donate a portion of the proceeds to us. We received this lovely note and the money from him, and we're so grateful!

This young man, who came to our Voices & Visions event in May, felt inspired and compelled to support our work.

Thank you, Tre, for seeing the value and dignity in all our neighbors, and for being the force for good that you are. It's a reminder that anyone – no matter their age or station in life – can make a difference.

Sometimes it's intimidating to make a phone call or walk into a building to ask for help. Our Community Resource Connection Hub makes it easy for people facing homelessness to reach out - they can text, email, call, or walk into the Westwood Community Center. Last week's text exchange is an example of how we support and build solid relationships with our Hub clients.

In a follow-up interview after a client visited the Community Resource Connection Hub in Westwood Community Center, they shared this powerful statement: "You guys were my light in that dark time." We're so glad the Hub staff could support this person and provide valuable resources while they were going through a difficult time.

This is why we do the work! In a follow-up interview for the Community Resource Connection Hub, a client stated, "Honestly, I wouldn't have done it without you guys, because I didn't know where to turn."

We're proud to be a part of the solution for this individual facing homelessness!

Thanks to everyone who stopped by for our open house happy hour last week! It was wonderful to gather at the Schoolyard Beer Garden and give tours of our new office inside the historic Evans School.

In follow-up interviews conducted at least 30 days after a client’s first visit to the Hub, more than half of clients reported concrete improvement in their circumstances, including securing temporary housing, advancing housing applications, and resolving utility assistance needs.

We are encouraged by the outcomes of the Hub report and the importance of people on the edge of homelessness accessing resources before losing their homes!

The Hub evaluation report revealed that clients had a clear understanding of what to do after they visited the Hub for resources, a critical factor in navigating complex systems. Plus, Hub staff always followed up with clients within a couple of weeks of their initial visit to learn if the need was met or if the person required additional support.

Following up reassures the client that the relationship with the Hub extends beyond just the first interaction. Staff also make sure to reach out when they learn of a new resource that might help someone they have already worked with, which encourages clients to surface more secondary needs that may have gone unmentioned during their first interaction. Building these solid, trustworthy relationships is such a key part of preventing homelessness!

Look for us outside at the Schoolyard Beer Garden.

The Hub evaluation report found that the Hub is particularly effective because of its relational, community-based approach. Clients consistently highlighted the compassion, empathy, and follow-up provided by staff, elements often missing from traditional service navigation systems.
