Great to see KOAA 5 shining a light on the Colorado Department of Local Affairs and the Colorado Main Street program, as well as our 4 new communities! A warm welcome to our four new additions to the program: Cripple Creek, Woodland Park, Fort Morgan, and Kiowa. Exciting things are already happening, and even more are on the horizon for these communities!

Check out the front row seat of shaping the future of the Town of Berthoud's Main Street!

Hosted at the incredible and historic City Star Brewing, members of the Berthoud Main Street group and Colorado Main Street held an open house to dive headfirst into participating with the program!

We kicked everything off with a presentation on program requirements and info. After that, community leaders and stakeholders engaged in thoughtful discussions and asked excellent questions. The enthusiasm for the Berthoud community was felt in spades. Thanks to the people of Berthoud for an amazing turnout. We are buzzing with ideas after this visit!

Last week, Main Street traveled to Wellington, CO, to participate in an experiential assessment of accessibility and mobility in their downtown, A Roll and Stroll.

Disabled and non-disabled members of the community used wheelchairs and toured the downtown to better understand the lived experience of their fellow community members who rely on these devices for mobility. To say that this was an enlightening experience would be an understatement. What seems like a minor inconvenience to some becomes a stone wall barrier to others as they try to navigate stores, restaurants, bars, and events. A huge thank you to everyone who participated and guided us through this process.

The vast majority of trips, slips, and falls in downtowns are caused by infrastructure issues like cracked or poorly maintained sidewalks, lack of lighting, and inadequate crosswalks. These hazards are especially dangerous for individuals who utilize wheelchairs for mobility.

Main Street is for everyone. We encourage all communities to assess and address accessibility in their communities to build a world of accessibility for all!

On the road again! Main Street was in Meeker this week. This visit was chock full, starting with a complete tour of downtown, a deep dive into the history of Meeker at the White River Museum, including learning more about the famous bank robbery, a view of the newly opened Circle Park (funded in part by the CO Department of Natural Resources and GOCO!), and a visit to the cemetary to get a great view of Circle Park and the community. Meeker is such a gem.

Home, home on the... Rangely! Main Street recently visited beautiful Rangely, CO. We gazed in awe at the full-scale statue of Walter the Dinosaur. We visited several areas, including The Tank Center for Sonic Arts, a former water tank converted into a recording studio with unmatched reverb, and Rangely Rock Crawling Park, an outdoor extravaganza for off-road vehicles, among too many others to list! We ended the visit meeting with 2 of the 3 winners of the Rangely Pitch Competition, Cool Cravings (a new soda shop), and El Jefe Rental (mechanical bull, party and inflatables). What an amazing visit!

We are absolutely thrilled to announce that the state has certified seven new Creative Districts, and two of our incredible Main Street communities, Lyons and Silverton, are among them!

This prestigious certification is a powerful recognition of the local commitment to arts and culture, which plays a vital role in strengthening community identity and economic vitality. Creative Districts are cornerstones of community development, helping to boost jobs, incomes, and investments.

A huge congratulations to all seven new certified districts! We are so proud to see the dedication and creativity of our communities celebrated at the state level.

Last week, we hosted our statewide network of Main Street Managers in Lyons, Colorado. We were lucky that Ty Coleman, Mayor of Alamosa, provided our keynote address. His enthusiasm set the stage for a great couple of days. Everyone enjoyed the time together, sharing their knowledge and many incredible projects. The group also ventured out into Lyons' Main Street district to explore the concept of placemaking.

At the conclusion of the event, Kat McFadden, Main Street Manager of Pagosa Springs, was voted by her peers to be the 2025 Main Street Manager of the Year. Her tireless efforts to keep businesses open and thriving this year, despite an ongoing downtown highway project, have been exceptional.

We had an amazing time at the 2025 Lake City Uncorked Wine and Music Festival! A huge shoutout to the more than 100 volunteers and to Lake City DIRT, who made the festival possible. This community is a perfect example of self-sustainability, showing how a town can come together. We can't wait to come back next year to support them and this amazing event.

Had an incredible day in Silverton, Colorado! We had the privilege of touring their stunning historic downtown, which is a testament to the town's rich mining heritage and a designated National Historic Landmark. Had the privilege of attending a Main Street Board meeting where we discussed some strategic planning. The views and historic buildings were simply stunning. Next time you get the chance, hop on the train to Silverton for an unforgettable journey!

Just got back from an inspiring site visit to Mancos! We had a wonderful time meeting with representatives from the Mancos Creative District, the Chamber of Commerce, and the Town as they are exploring partnering with Colorado Main Street. It's clear there's an incredible passion for downtown revitalization here. Based on the work we've seen, as well as the astonishing mural pictured, they are already rolling up their sleeves and getting to work! Incredible!
