I want to take this opportunity to thank the 2024 Denver Chapter Payroll Association for all of their efforts this year. Your hard work and dedication is greatly appreciated!

I also want to extend a special thank you to Jessica Hernandez, CPP for her work on the board. Jessica has over the last couple of years helped with study group, served as Secretary, assisted with RCH's, taking meeting minutes, and assisting with National Payroll Week. Your contributions to the board are greatly appreciated and you will be missed.

I am pleased to announce the 2025 DCPA Executive Board. There are a few vacant positions. If you would like to learn more about serving on the board, please email [email protected].

While at the Rocky Mountain Regional Payroll Association Learning Series last weekend, I also had the pleasure of presenting the Board Member of the Year award to Heather Cummings, CPP. Two years ago, Nicol Kielian, CPP, SPHR (formerly Elder) challenged the board to step out of their comfort zone.

Heather took on the roll of Government Liaison Officer or GLO responsible for keeping the chapter up to date on legislation changes. We all know payroll never ever need to pivot when laws change right?! Heather started the GLO blog which has been a great resource for our chapter members and you can check it out on the chapter website.

This year, Heather served on the board as Treasurer. Heather has done an amazing job auditing the chapter finances and keeping me on track with the chapter budget. She also helped Marci and Jessica with proclamations for National Payroll Week and serving on the RMRPLS planning committee. I sincerely appreciate Heather's contributions to the chapter this year.

I wanted to share a few words that were said by fellow chapter members about Heather, "Heather has done a tremendous job as treasurer. It's her first year but she has jumped in, been open to learning and kept the budget up to date as well as keeping the board involved and aware of what is happening. She has helped Cathy with budgeting for Learning Series as well as Marci with National Payroll Week and Membership. Thank you for being open and transparent with the budget. Hope to see you again next year on the board!"

At the Rocky Mountain Regional Payroll Association Learning Series October 19th in Estes Park, I also had the pleasure of presenting the Friend of the Chapter Award to Todd Morse CPP.

Todd has tirelessly given to the chapter this year in our first year doing the Learning Series. The RMRPLS planning committee began planning for the Learning Series last November after regional was over by selecting a theme and a logo. With the Learning Series, the chapter was able to bring a more innovative experience for our members through virtual speakers.

Virtual speakers presented new challenges and Todd met that challenge head on! He seamlessly and flawlessly kept our video feeds running and ensured we had sound for all of our sessions. I sincerely appreciate your efforts this year in ensuring the success of the Learning Series!

I wanted to share a few words that were said about Todd by chapter members, "Todd has really stepped up and been willing to help out with supporting our chapter as he knows best. He has been involved in and helped with the Learning Series, has been to a large majority of meetings, graciously giving his time to support us in a big way."

Each year the Denver Chapter Payroll Association awards one deserving Payroll Professional the Payroll Professional of the Year award. The awardee is nominated by fellow chapter members and nominations are open throughout the year. The chapter recognizes the awardee during the Learning Series.

Yesterday at the Rocky Mountain Regional Payroll Association Learning Series, I had the privilege to award the Payroll Professional of the Year to Terri (Therese) Beeler, CPP. Terri has been an active member of the chapter for a number of years and we appreciate her contributions to the chapter.

I wanted to share a few words that were said by fellow chapter members about Terri, "She is always present in the chapter year after year, she has vast knowledge of payroll and has been such a great mentor to me. She always brings meaningful conversations to all our functions and is the kindest person I know and will always help you or give any advice she can on all the payroll topics".

Congratulations to Terri on this award and for being sharing your knowledge with the chapter!

Its been a busy week for the chapter! Thursday night was chapter meeting with Steve Rothenburgh, CPP teaching us about prevailing wages and certified payroll.

Friday, we had our first session of the Rocky Mountain Regional Payroll Association Learning Series at Junior Achievement and learned all about taxes. We had a great session and lots of great speakers.

Today was our first session of the summer/fall study group where we learned about Non-resident aliens, resident aliens, visas, what an employee is, and how to calculate regular rate of pay. Thank you to our presenters of Chapter 1 Jesika Bachman, CPP and Chapter 14 Cyndi Davidson, CPP.

I was honored to get to share our chapter's goals this year of increasing membership and engagement. This year, in place of a regional conference, we are stepping out of the comfort zone a little bit with the Learning Series. Our next session will be August 23rd at Junior Achievement where we will be celebrating National Payroll Week, teaching a Money Matters class, and raising funds to benefit Junior Achievement. Watch for more details about speakers and schedule on the chapter website.
