A nonpartisan nonprofit animal advocacy organization working at the local, state and federal levels.

CVA supports and helps elect animal-friendly candidates, lobbies elected officials on pending legislation, gathers and disseminates information about legislators’ views on animal protection issues, tracks and publicizes voting records of incumbents and the positions of candidates on animal protection issues, and mobilizes our members and the general voting public to lend their support.

After 40 days lost in the Colorado wilderness, Fridge the cat is finally home.

While camping, Fridge and another cat escaped. One was found quickly, but Fridge disappeared. After searching campsites for days with no luck, the search was called off.

Then, 40 days later, someone brought Fridge to a local humane society. Aside from being a little underweight, she was healthy and finally reunited with her owner.

Rodenticides can impact the entire ecosystem.

When a rat or mouse consumes rodent poison, the toxin remains in its body. If that rodent is later eaten by an owl, hawk, fox, coyote, bobcat, or even a curious dog or cat, the poison can spread, causing serious illness or death.

What do belugas, great apes, elephants, dolphins, and magpies have in common? 🐋

They can recognize themselves in a mirror.

A new study found that beluga whales demonstrate mirror self-recognition, a trait associated with self-awareness and previously documented in only a small number of species. Researchers observed belugas using mirrors to inspect themselves and test whether the reflection was their own.

As science continues to uncover the remarkable cognitive abilities of animals, it also challenges us to rethink how we view and treat other species.

A quarter-century of conservation work is helping bring the Columbian sharp-tail grouse back to parts of Colorado where the species once disappeared.

This spring, Colorado Parks and Wildlife relocated 26 birds to Grand County as part of an ongoing effort to restore populations across their historic Western Slope range. The project highlights the importance of habitat conservation, wildlife management, and partnerships that support Colorado's native species.
