Let's goooo!! Last week, we joined Standley Lake High School students and staff in the Murph Challenge, honoring the sacrifice of our nation’s heroes.

More than 27 students, 4 faculty members, and several officers took on the challenge, and absolutely crushed it.

- 1 mile run to start
- 100 pull-ups
- 200 push-ups
- 300 air squats
- 1 mile run to finish

We were proud to cheer everyone on, sweat a little, and survive together. Nicely done, gators!

HEADS UP | Like many cities across the metro area, WPD is seeing an increase in copper wire and backflow preventer thefts in Westminster.

Thieves are targeting copper wiring in light poles and in-ground electrical boxes. Known locations impacted include the Westminster RTD Station, downtown Westminster, the US 36 corridor, and cell phone towers.

We are also seeing backflow preventers being stolen from homes under construction, parks, and office buildings. These crimes are costing our local residents and businesses thousands of dollars!

Please, please be vigilant and if you see something suspicious, call 911 immediately. We'd love to surprise these thieves and catch them in the act!

Goodbye homework, hello summer!

Wow, what a year it has been! As students head into summer break, we want to give a huge shoutout to our School Resource Officers for another incredible school year serving our schools and community.

This school year, our SRO team logged more than 1,132 engagements and educational activities! Anything from after-school sporting events and activities, to career fairs, classroom presentations and assemblies. The WPD SRO Team includes 7 SROs and 1 Sergeant, who serve 44 schools across Westminster.

It’s truly a honor to serve our community and help guide the next generation.

And of course, congratulations to all the seniors who graduated this year! We're so proud!

We’re here to help. As May comes to a close, we want to remind our community during that support is available.

’s Co-Responder Unit pairs mental health and case management professionals with police officers, fire department personnel, and other city employees to respond to crisis-related events throughout the city. The team responds to more than 1,000 calls in our community every year.

Co-Responders help de-escalate situations, stabilize individuals in crisis, assess needs and risk and connect community members with the appropriate services and resources.

If you or someone you know is experiencing a life-threatening crisis, call 911 and request a Co-Responder. If you would like to speak with a Co-Responder but are not in immediate crisis, please call 303-706-3100.

For more information about the unit, visit our website www.westminsterco.gov/905/Co-Responders

Man with active warrants arrested after brief chase

Recently officers responded to a report of a suspicious vehicle near 104th Ave and Sheridan Ave. When officers arrived, they quickly located the vehicle in question which was unoccupied with a gun inside.

Soon after that, a man returned to the vehicle carrying a gas can. He briefly spoke with officers, who determined he had two active warrants and a caution that he may be armed with a handgun.

The man then took off, and the chase was on ... even though he was told several times to stop. Officers quickly caught up to him and took him into custody without incident. Next time maybe he'll think twice before running.

Animal Management Officer rescues dog stuck in pond

Earlier this week, AMO Wood responded to a call about a dog trapped in a pond at a local golf course. With the water too deep to safely reach, AMO Wood used a leash and towel to carefully lift the pup to safety.

The rescued dog, Luna, was evaluated and safely reunited with her family.

DID YOU KNOW? Use our Safe Exchange Zone for online transactions

WPD encourages community members to use our parking lot as a designated Safe Exchange Zone when completing transactions arranged through Facebook Marketplace, Nextdoor, Craigslist and other online platforms.

WPD Address: 9110 Yates St, Westminster, CO 80031

Our parking lot provides a well-lit location at a police facility to help promote safer exchanges between buyers and sellers. While we encourage the use of this space, WPD personnel are not able to participate in transactions, act as official witnesses, provide legal advice, or mediate civil or pricing disputes. Officers may only intervene if a safety concern or criminal matter arises.

Safety tips for completing online transactions:
◾Only do transactions with local buyers/sellers
◾Do not go to a transaction alone
◾Make sure a friend or family member is aware of the transaction details
◾Insist on meeting in a public area like our safe transaction zones
