The Colorado Heart Gallery is both a website and a traveling photography display dedicated to finding caring adults for our waiting children. It is a collaboration among the Colorado Department of Human Services, Raise the Future, counties throughout the state, and generous professional photographers who donate their time, talent, and materials to help find families for children and youth. Please note that the comments expressed on the page do not reflect the opinions and position of CDHS or our employees. Amber and Alicia, along with their 15-year-old daughter Taylen, created a diverse family in a safe and loving home, including a-six-year-old boy, his 11-month-old sister, and a 19-year-old youth in transition. Driven to give children the security they deserve, they approach every challenge with a "how can we?" mindset, finding creative solutions. Their approach has led to success and the six-year-old is now excelling as a top learner in school, and they championed their youth in transition who graduated and found a job. They advise prospective foster parents to "take the leap" to experience the profound reward of watching a child grow and feel safe through patience and kindness.

Charles and Sean were married in 2018 and became foster parents and first-time parents two and half years ago. For the last two years, they have been caring for the same young person and have found creative ways to use play to parent him in a trauma-informed way. During this time, they have seen the young person in their care grow both physically and emotionally, and have developed a strong bond. Charles and Sean are grateful for the team of professionals and friends who support them and the young person in their care. Charles and Sean also like to travel with the young person in their care and create opportunities for him to have new experiences.

Those in the child welfare community say that removals and family separations are always a last resort. According to DHS, 95 percent of all involvements end without the child being removed.

The foster care journey may look different for every family, but the intended destination remains the same: reuniting the children with their families whenever possible.
