Don't be fooled by the labeling on the lagoon that says "14.7 acres." The actual water part of the lagoon will only be 1.5-3 acres in size - that's the amount of space that is INSIDE the track at Panther Stadium! This is no more than a glorified outdoor pool.
The yellow block labeled "ROKC" will supposedly encompass the following: (copied directly from the agenda on the City of Derby website) "the Developer anticipates a multisport training complex that would encompass the following activities: indoor rock-climbing, fitness center and classes, café, skateboarding, BMX freestyle, BMX racing, mountain biking, scooter, snowboarding, skiing, and other action sports."
All of this in only 5 acres of land! Who is even pretending to believe this?! It looks like a lot more smoke and mirrors coming from Derby Destination Development - who by the way still owes the city of Derby a Hotel and unique sit down restaurant from Phase 1 six years ago!

Also, BE AWARE! If you want to speak at the City Council meeting this Tuesday, May 10th at 6:30pm they are making you sign up before noon on Tuesday. Usually you can just walk in and sign up, but this meeting you need to submit a speaking request in advance to: [email protected] or call the CIty Clerk at 316-788-3132.

They're back! There is going to be a vote on approving the Star Bond Lagoon project next Tuesday, May 10th at 6:30pm at the Derby City Council Meeting.

We discovered buried on the lower lefthand side of page 14 of last week's Derby Informer (4/27/22 issue) a Notice of Public Hearing that Derby Destination Development is back and wanting Derby to sign off on millions of dollars in additional Star Bond funding for their Lagoon project.

We had a great turn out of citizens ready to let their voices be heard at the council meeting that was recessed back in December, so hopefully we can have another great turnout this time. It's encouraging that we now have several new council members who seem much more ready to listen to the citizens of Derby and not just TELL US what is best for us and our city - thankfully!

If you can, make plans now to attend the council meeting at Derby City Hall, 611 N Mulberry Road, Derby on May 10th at 6:30pm!

Great news! The expensive, small lagoon that Rick Worner's developers wanted to bring to Derby (even though it didn't hold a candle to any of the other lagoons or developments around America) has been scrapped for now! They have withdrawn their proposal and requested that the public hearing be cancelled when the City Council meeting resumes on December 28 at 6:30 PM. (Let's keep our eyes and ears open because they claim they will be back.)

THANK YOU to everyone who emailed or called our city council and officials! Your work—and prayers—were not in vain!

We want our town to succeed and grow, and we can do that together: the honest, responsible, innovative, DERBY PROUD way!

Merry Christmas and Happy New Year!!!

The Lord has been answering your prayers for Councilman Andrew Swindle after his medical emergency at last Tuesday’s meeting. He is doing much better, and we are SO GRATEFUL! Continue to keep him and his family in your prayers. Thank you!

Shortly after the Derby City Council meeting began last night one of the members of the council had a serious medical emergency that required EMS to be called. The mayor recessed the meeting and set it to resume on Tuesday, December 28, 2021 at 6:30pm.

The council member is Andrew Swindle. Prayers for him and his family I’m sure would be very much appreciated.

LagoMar Crystal Lagoon between Houston and Galveston has a public access beach similar to what we would have in Derby (only theirs is 12 acres and ours would be only 2). You want to see the reviews? It gets only 2 out of 5 stars, and is already having maintenance issues even though it's brand-new. Read more here...

Will people from Kansas City, Oklahoma City, Tulsa, and Branson TRULY want to make the 3-to-4-hour drive to a 2-acre lagoon in Derby—when they have so many more tourist attractions in their own metro areas or cheap flights to NICE vacation destinations on either coast?

Why does the feasibility study assume that a single 2-acre "beach" and lagoon next to a flood plain will be so much more attractive than what those people have?

Here is another great comparison of just how small the lagoon they are proposing for Derby (compared to everywhere else) is. The ENTIRE lagoon would fit inside the running track at Panther Stadium!

Again, if they meet their projected, (and needed in order to be profitable), tourism numbers there will be 2,000 people here per day June-August. Would you like to be in this size of a space with 1,999 strangers?

If this doesn’t sound leisurely to you please contact the Derby City Council before they vote on the lagoon THIS Tuesday, December 14th at 6:30pm!

Do we expect people would want to come to Derby for vacation at a 2-acre lagoon, with an 8-acre lagoon in Orlando right next to Disney World and 15 minutes from Universal?

Evermore Orlando Resort, Florida, will be anchored by an 8-acre PAL™ by Crystal Lagoons® and surrounded by a 20-acre tropical beach complex.
