Always a good day when it includes a county fair. Great to visit the Appanoose County Fair, catch part of the beef show, and spend time visiting with exhibitors and fairgoers.

County fairs continue to showcase the very best of Iowa agriculture, our youth, and our rural communities.

Started the day in Davis County touring Douds Stone’s Lewis Quarry with Representative Austin Harris. Douds Stone is celebrating its 100th year in business this year!

Quarries like this provide the stone used in many of Iowa’s infrastructure projects. It was great to learn more about their operation and the important role they play in supporting our rural economy.

Great stop at the Delaware County Fair this afternoon!

I enjoyed visiting with exhibitors, checking out the barns, and seeing Iowa's next generation show the hard work they’ve put in all year. County fairs are one of the best ways we celebrate agriculture, youth leadership, and rural community pride.

Good discussion this afternoon at the Community Bankers of Iowa Annual Convention in Dickinson County.

We covered a lot of important topics — the ag economy, farm profitability, markets and trade, biofuels, animal health, and water quality. Ag lenders are important partners and trusted advisors for our farmers and rural communities, and I appreciate everything they do to support our state!

Started my day in Clay County touring a water quality wetland that’s helping protect Iowa’s soil and water.

This project was developed with support from IDALS, turning what began as a wet spot in a field into a highly effective conservation practice that filters nitrate from water, works with existing tile, and includes CRP around the wetland. Great example of practical, farmer-led conservation in action.

This sixth-generation family farm sells beef, pork, chicken, and eggs directly to consumers and recently received a Choose Iowa Value-Added Grant to support new storage and on-farm retail space. Great to see another Iowa farm finding new ways to grow and connect with customers!
