🎥 One quiet morning in Tobin Harbor, Ray and I spotted a wolf standing high up on the ridge in the burn area. We idled closer between Gale Island and the shoreline and watched as she slowly made her way down through the tangled burned forest toward the water.

We’ve nicknamed her Spencer.

She stepped down to the shoreline for a drink before turning around and disappearing right back into the mangled maze of the burn area like a ghost. Moments like this are why Isle Royale never feels predictable.

If you encountered a wolf on Isle Royale, what do you think your reaction would be? 👀🐺

📷 Two views of the same evening in Rock Harbor tonight.

First photo: my view right now from the side porch of the guesthouse.
Second photo: the view from the Smithwick Channel we**am — and if you look closely, you can actually see the guesthouse in the we**am shot. It’s the two-story building with the light on in the middle of the photo.

Pretty cool seeing both perspectives of the same quiet night on Isle Royale. 🌅

You can check the live we**am here too:

📷 The hike up to Lookout Louise isn’t just a trail… it feels like earning a view.

Rocky climbs, roots, muddy spots, mosquitoes, sweat — and then suddenly Lake Superior opens up beneath you and every step feels worth it.

If you’ve made the hike before, what was your first reaction when you reached the top? 👇

🎥 My favorite way to cook lake trout on Isle Royale.

Fresh lake trout nuggets frying in peanut oil after a long day on the water… hard to beat that sound and smell out here. Cajun Shore Lunch is my preferred fish batter! Simple camp food always tastes better on Lake Superior. 🎣🔥

📷 A few of the big Isle Royale lake trout we've landed over the last several summers. 🎣

There’s just something about catching lake trout on the cold waters of Lake Superior that never gets old. Every fish has a story behind it… weather, waves, missed strikes, long troll passes, and sometimes a little luck.

Alright, let’s hear it… 👇
What’s the biggest lake trout you’ve ever caught? And if you had to pick just one Isle Royale fishing spot to fish again, where would it be?

Bonus points for photos. Let’s see ‘em. 👀🎣

17 pounds of cold water Lake Superior power. 🎣❄️

Caught this beauty last night jigging paddle tails in 37-degree water aboard the Hazy J. Hard to beat evenings like this on Isle Royale.

I’ve honestly been thinking more and more about getting an Isle Royale tattoo someday… then I saw my friemd and coworker Carly’s awesome “How Wild Is It?” antler tattoo and figured I can’t be the only one. 🫎

Now I’m curious — does anyone else out there have an Isle Royale inspired tattoo? Drop a photo in the comments. Would love to see them and maybe steal a little inspiration 😂

📷 Isle Royale sunsets don’t just light up the sky… they take it over. 🌅

One of those evenings where Lake Superior went calm, the clouds exploded with color, and the whole island seemed to stop for a minute.

Have you ever witnessed a sunset on Isle Royale? Or what’s the most unforgettable sunset you’ve ever seen? Let’s see those pictures. 👇

🎥 Isle Royale is SOOOO Wild!

“How wild is it?!” 😂

If you’ve arrived at Rock Harbor anytime in the last 5+ years, there’s a good chance you heard one of the interpretive rangers give this famous orientation speech. Ray and I work the dock right next to it, so during the busy summer months we probably heard “HOW WILD IS IT?!” over a dozen times a day. Safe to say it became permanently burned into our brains.

Honestly though, it was a clever and memorable way to get important information across to new arrivals, and visitors always seemed to have fun trying to out-yell the other group nearby.

The speech is officially gone this year, and some of us on the dock are quietly enjoying the peace and quiet again. 😂

Over the years we started coming up with our own answers:
• “It is so wild, we only get Amazon packages twice a week.”
• “It is so wild, the wolves greet you at the dock.”
• “It is so wild, the mosquitoes carry off small children.” 😂
• “It is so wild, the moose have the right of way.”
• “It is so wild, your weather app just gives up.” 🌧️
• “It is so wild, the loons judge your campsite setup

Alright… your turn. 👇

🎥 Ray and I were fishing along the Palisades when we spotted something white wedged high up in the shoreline rocks. At first we thought maybe it was a buoy… or trash… or who knows what. So we eased the boat in and climbed out to check it out.

Turns out it was a soccer ball. 😂

Naturally we started calling it “Wilson,” like the volleyball from Cast Away. And honestly… finding a random ball washed up on a remote Lake Superior island felt pretty fitting.

The crazy part was how tightly it was jammed into the rocks. The waves must’ve absolutely launched that thing during a storm. Ray finally climbed up there and kicked Wilson free from his rocky prison.

Makes you wonder where it even came from… another boat? Somewhere along the North Shore? Canada? Maybe Wilson has traveled more of Lake Superior than most people have. 🌊⚽

What’s the weirdest or most random thing YOU’ve ever found in the middle of nowhere?

🎥 Trolling along beneath one of Isle Royale’s giant eastern white pines… the island sentinels. 🌲🎣

Some of these trees were already standing long before Isle Royale became a National Park in 1940. Wind, ice, storms, and generations of voyageurs and fishermen have all passed beneath them.

Hard not to look up at these giants and feel small out here.
