Listen to Flash.
Flash is amazed at how delightful the weather can be in Dodge City during December. He also knows that can change quickly. When the weather does become cold and frightful, a lot of people may use space heaters for supplemental heating. If you do, Flash would like to remind you to keep your heater at least 3 feet away from combustibles and also make sure it is shut off when you leave the house. Stay safe and have a great day!
Extra vigilance tomorrow folks. Please be careful.

After almost 35 years of service with the Dodge City Fire Department I am retiring. I just wanted to take this opportunity to say thanks to the City of Dodge City for allowing me to first be a firefighter and to finally be the Chief of one of the finest Departments in the State. I owe much too all the men and women I have worked with over the years, all of whom have been dedicated servants to this great community. In 1985 when I came to work for the Dodge City Fire Department as a young man I wasn’t sure what I was getting into. Little did I know that I was taking the first steps on a journey that would lead me to becoming Chief of this great Department. Along the way I found new brothers and sisters that I would do anything for and they for me, because being a firefighter is like being part of a large family. There is laughter, crying, and fighting all the things that you think of when you think of a family. Also the dedication and passion for the job that these men and women show every day is amazing and a privilege to have been a part of.
As I begin the next phase of my life I know that the Department is in good hands. Longtime Dodge City Firefighter and former Deputy Chief Ken Spencer will lead the DCFD into the future. I know he will continue the great traditions of excellence that the Dodge City Fire Department has always maintained and he will bring new and fresh ideas that will continue to make us all proud to have this great organization serving our community.
Hats off to FF Ashlock and FF Cornitius for completing the Suicide Awareness 5k in FULL turnout gear. What a great gesture.
