The baby animals came back for our older students today. This experience brought out -even further- the immense compassion, curiosity, gentleness and joy within our students. We hope to see them many more times in the future! And... it is quite clear that we need to schedule a future camping trip…

Principal Bryan Read Aloud #19: The Proudest Blue

In honor of Ramadan, enjoy this beautiful story, written by Ibtihaj Muhammad, the first American Olympic medalist to compete wearing a Hijab. Included are videos and questions that help to explain the beauty and importance of diversity.

"With her new backpack and light-up shoes, Faizah knows the first day of school is going to be special. It’s the start of a brand new year and, best of all, it’s her older sister Asiya’s first day of hijab–a hijab of beautiful blue fabric, like the ocean waving to the sky. But not everyone sees hijab as beautiful, and in the face of hurtful, confusing words, Faizah will find new ways to be strong.

The sorry bring readers an uplifting, universal story of new experiences, the unbreakable bond between siblings, and of being proud of who you are."

Good Afternoon Kenny Families,

It has been quite the privilege to join the Kenny School as a Principal Fellow this year. I’ve had the pleasure of meeting many of you and I am looking forward to meeting all of you as we continue to work together through this time full of challenges and rewards. With the Thanksgiving holiday upon us, and as I reflect on the many things I’m thankful for, I want to take this opportunity to express how grateful I feel to be part of such a special community. This year has been nothing short of unexpected realities and moments in which we’ve had to lean on each other to continue forward. I am grateful to the Kenny families who time and time again not only demonstrate resiliency through these incredibly difficult times, but also show love and support to all of our students, families and staff.

As you know, next Wednesday is a half-day in observance of the Thanksgiving holiday. We will begin our day with a special Thanksgiving PAWssembly led by our specialist team from 9:30am-10:15am. Students will then join classes for instruction until 12:30pm. All classes and instruction will end at 12:30 pm.

If you have any questions please feel free to reach out to Principal Bryan and/or myself ([email protected]) or the [email protected]il.com. Again, thank you for continuing to share your most valuable possession with us. For this, I am so thankful. I look forward to seeing you all at Wednesday PAWssembly!

Warm wishes,

Ms. Cruz

Dear Kenny Community:

As a reminder, beginning on Monday 11/30/20, students may opt-out of live specialist instruction and complete independent enrichment projects for course credit. The purpose of this change is to flexibly address student/family feedback regarding screen time, while continuing to offer meaningful enrichment programming to students. Students may ONLY opt-out of live instruction with parent permission granted through this form EACH month.

Parents/guardians may also use this form to enroll student(s) in grades 3-6 in small group instrument lessons!

FORM DUE 11/24/20: https://forms.gle/h9FeXo4ZqkXXargo8

**To Opt-Out of Live Specialist Classes: (starting 11/30/20)

Parents/guardians ONLY may submit this form on behalf of their child/children each month.

Form submissions made using student email addresses will not be accepted.

The form will be posted in the “specialists” tab of our Home Learning Site and emailed to parents/guardians.

All assignments will be posted on SeeSaw and Google Classroom (depending on your child’s current platform).

To receive credit, students must post their work by the assigned due date.

Due to the scheduling of projects and in-person units, students who opt-out for the month cannot switch back into or attend live classes until the following month to prevent disruptions to the learning environment and to maintain instructional consistency for both groups of students.

**To Enroll in Instrument Lessons: (starting 11/30/20)

Winter fun!
BPL Hours are a social justice issue. I emailed city councilors to ask them to act to make physical library materials more available to students and to families with children. If you would like to email your district's councilor and the Councilors-at-Large about this issue, you can too! The Councilors at Large: Julia Mejia at [email protected] Michael Flaherty at [email protected] Annissa Essaibi George at [email protected] Michelle Wu at [email protected] How to find your district's councilor: https://www.boston.gov/my-neighborhood?p2 Here is what I wrote (You can copy and paste it or write your own thing!) Subject: Make BPL services accessible to families and students with usable hours Message: Dear Councilors, I am writing to ask that you act to make Boston Public Library services accessible to families during weekend and evening hours in local branches. The hours that BPL branches are open now are simply unacceptable. This is a social justice issue. Children and students need better access to library materials. And the families who are hurt most by the limited hours are those (1) without cars, (2) without parents and guardians who are able to make library trips in the afternoons, (3) without the financial resources to purchase books and materials for their children and students. Precautions surrounding Covid can continue to be maintained during extended hours, or even increased. Perhaps families with children, students, and senior citizens could be prioritized in some way for use of the library’s weekend hours. Providing children and students with physical reading materials would surely be a benefit during this time of social distancing and remote learning. And making these more accessible at local branches is smart, so that families are not expected to travel unnecessarily through the city. Thank you for listening to the voice of your constituents. Thank you,

Hi Kenny Community! We want to register our littler sibling for next year. I'm looking at the BPS pre-registration online, and it looks like we need to enter a "school issued Security Code" from the Kenny. Can anyone tell me how to find that? Thanks!!
Ms. Manning & I just delivered a huge donation of canned & non-perishable foods to the Greater Boston Food Bank. Thank you to the Kenny School Community for your amazing generosity during this year’s food drive! Happy Thanksgiving!
As communications chair for the Site Council, I wanted to share with you all that the slides from the November School Site Council Meeting are now posted on the school website. A big thank you to all the dedicated staff and Ms. Bryan's tireless leadership for pulling off an amazing night for the families and students of the Kenny community. We know this is the most hectic time of year for teachers with never-ending to -do lists. However, this experience was unique and memorable for all! Your hard work and extra hours truly was worth it from a parent and educator perspective! May this positive energy get you through these last 14 days!
Maybe I'm misunderstanding something but Kenny Awards is open to the public and free? Are Kenny families not paying $2/person for tickets? And I have to question the "open to the public" part.
If anyone needs a pair of soccer cleats, I have a size 2 for free. Used one season.
