By going from 2001-2025, WASB really misleads the public.

If you look at just the last 8 years, you'll see about a doubling in special education dollars. What you won't see is huge numbers of identified special education students that were identified AFTER special ed went up.

Are rising per-pupil expenditures telling the whole story? Not quite.

While Wisconsin schools have seen increases in state special education reimbursement, the actual costs of serving students with disabilities have grown far faster. Since 2000, special education costs have increased by nearly $1 billion statewide, while state aid has increased by only about $250 million. At the same time, schools continue to take on new state requirements and community expectations, often without additional funding.

KM is NOT one of these districts. Our staffing levels - including ALL staff, not just teachers is almost double what other districts are doing. Our Admin costs are lower than everyone in the county.

School districts are not built for employment reasons. Our job is to educate. Bureaucracy doesn't educate.

While Wisconsin’s K-12 enrollment has fallen 9.2% over the past 16 years, public school staffing has increased 7%, the report found.

I just vetoed a bill that would have required opting Wisconsin into a nationwide expansion of private voucher schools under President Donald Trump’s and Republicans’ ‘Big Beautiful Bill, which is expected to divert billions of dollars from public schools and public education.
