The Delaware State Fire Prevention Commission is seeking a dynamic, experienced leader to serve as the Director of the Delaware State Fire School. This is an executive‑level position responsible for overseeing all operations, training programs, staff, facilities, budgeting, and strategic direction of the Fire School.

This position functions at the pleasure and under the direction of the State Fire Prevention Commission.

The Director will:
• Lead and manage all Fire School programs, personnel, and regional training centers
• Oversee fire, rescue, and EMS training that meets NFPA, Pro Board, and IFSAC standards
• Ensure safety, professionalism, and high‑quality instruction
• Manage budgets, assets, facilities, and capital improvements
• Develop policies, curriculum, and long‑term strategic goals
• Serve as the primary liaison to fire/EMS agencies, government officials, and statewide partners
• Support workforce development, recruitment, and staff training
• Maintain integrity and security of all testing and certification processes

Minimum Qualifications Include:
✔ Bachelor’s degree (or equivalent life experience)
✔ Leadership and supervisory experience
✔ Background in emergency services training
✔ Experience in budgeting, HR, policy development, and program administration
✔ Strong communication and organizational skills
✔ Knowledge of NFPA standards and the Delaware Fire & EMS system (or comparable systems)

Preferred Qualifications:
• Master’s degree in a related field
• Fire Instructor II or higher
• Executive‑level public safety leadership experience
• Experience with Pro Board / IFSAC accreditation
• Experience working with government agencies and regulatory bodies

🚑 Now Live: Online EMT Certification Application Portal

The Delaware State Fire Commission, through its Division of Professional Standards, is pleased to announce the implementation of a new online EMT certification application system.

This new portal is designed to help expedite EMT renewals by allowing applicants to:

✔ Complete the application
✔ Submit required information
✔ Pay certification fees
— all in one convenient location.

This modernization effort would not have been possible without the partnership and support of Go DE – Delaware’s new Resident & Visitor Platform.

Over the coming months, all certifications and associated payments will transition to this online portal. We are working diligently to make the process simpler, faster, and more user-friendly for Delaware’s EMS professionals.

We appreciate your patience and support as we continue improving services for our fire and EMS community.
