The Mission of Deaf Outreach is threefold: to provide Deaf and hard-of-hearing consumers in Central Delaware with a comprehensive access point to resources and services that foster Education, Access, and Self-Advocacy. Deaf Outreach (DO) is a nonprofit agency providing education and access to resources and services for residents of central Delaware who are Deaf or hard of hearing. The agency will
form partnerships with local public, private, and government agencies that serve the needs of residents with diminished hearing and/or deafness in dealing with life function challenges. Consumers who are Deaf and hard of hearing are provided with a comprehensive access point to resources and services that foster independent living.
These services include, but are not limited to:
Self-advocacy
Accessing communication assistance
o Interpreters
o Video-phone communication
o Internet access
Employment skills
o Resume writing
o Interview skills
Independent living skills
o Securing housing
o Finances and budgeting
o Education
o Accessing Health Services
Other needs as determined by members of the Deaf and hard-of-hearing community at large
2 Public, private, and government agencies serving the needs of residents with a hearing loss and/or deafness are provided with education and information on accessing and providing services to this population. These services include, but are not limited to:
Accessing communication assistance
o Interpreters
o Video-phone communication
o Internet access Accessing Health services
Fulfilling Employment requirements
o Accessible workspaces – ADA Requirements
o Benefits to the employer
Other needs as determined by the public, private, and government agencies.
