Want to help shape the future of Dowagiac? The City has openings on three boards, and we'd love to have you at the table:

🏛️ 𝗕𝗼𝗮𝗿𝗱 𝗼𝗳 𝗥𝗲𝘃𝗶𝗲𝘄: Helps review the City's property assessments and hears taxpayer appeals

🌳 𝗧𝗿𝗲𝗲 𝗕𝗼𝗮𝗿𝗱: Helps care for the trees in our parks, along our streets, and in other public spaces

🪦 𝗖𝗲𝗺𝗲𝘁𝗲𝗿𝘆 𝗕𝗼𝗮𝗿𝗱: Helps care for Riverside Cemetery

Serving on a board is one of the most direct ways to give back to your community and help make Dowagiac an even better place to live. You don't need to be an expert — you just need to care about our city and be willing to show up. Most boards meet only a handful of times a year.

Ward 3 — you're up! Your week for June curbside yard waste pickup starts on on Monday, June 15. Through October, each ward has its week: Ward 1 the first Monday, Ward 2 the second, and Ward 3 the third.

Materials should be out by 7.30 AM on Monday, though they may not be picked up until the end of the week.

Here's what you need to know:

- Limbs must be less than 8" in diameter and less than 5’ in length, neatly stacked. Small limbs, branches and twigs must be placed in a container (bags, boxes, or cans). No stumps or root-balls will be picked up.

- The City reserves the right to exclude from pickup brush piles that are extraordinary in size or volume. Residents may request pickup of piles of extraordinary size, but will be charged a fee for such service based on the actual labor and equipment costs.

- All grass clippings and leaves must be contained (bags, boxes, or cans) and separated from limbs and twigs. Loose piles will not be picked up.

- Containers will be emptied by the City's crew onto the truck and left curbside to be re-used or properly disposed of by the resident.

- Materials for pick-up must be placed behind the curb – 𝗻𝗼𝘁 𝗶𝗻 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝘀𝘁𝗿𝗲𝗲𝘁.

- No building materials, machined lumber, root-balls, stones, trash, garbage, litter, or f***l material will be accepted or removed. Violations will be cited in accordance with the city's blight ordinance.

***CANCELED due to heat advisory and approaching storms***

Out of an abundance of caution for our performers, patrons, sponsors, vendors, and volunteers, tonight's Music in the Park is canceled.

We are all terribly disappointed. We were excited to present the awesome students of the Dowagiac Union Schools Choir, savor good food with Wood, Stock and Grill, Diana's Kitchen, Stick'n Sweets, and enjoy time spent with members of our community after a long and hard winter!

Please support these participants in other ways and join us next Thursday for Music in the Park. Denise Davis and the Motor City Sensations will be making their Music in the Park debut!

Power Outrage Update

Crews were able to restore power, overnight, to the small number of affected customers - outside a core of 14 homes affected by a downed electrical pole, wires, and trees, centered in the area of Orchard, Courtland, Division, Telegraph. Those residents will see relief today.

Tree crews are preparing the area for a new pole delivery and line repairs.
Power will be restored as soon as mechanically possible.
