CCIU provides services to the 12 school districts in Chester County. This includes services to nearly 86,000 public and non-public school students and over 6,000 educators. CCIU's major services include: special education and compensatory education programs; career, technical and customized education; mentor training and staff development; technology initiatives; consortia for school business oper
ations; and curriculum services. The Chester County Intermediate Unit is one of 29 regional educational agencies established by law in Pennsylvania in 1971. Working between the Pennsylvania State Department of Education and the local school districts, the intermediate unit's mission is to provide services that can be offered most economically at the regional level.

Isabella Aiona Abbott was an educator, phycologist and ethnobotanist from Hawaii.π She was the first native Hawaiian woman to receive a Ph.D. in science and became a leading expert on Pacific marine algae.π

Today is International Day of Families!π¨βπ©βπ§βπ¦ We are so thankful for everything our families do for their school communities, including the Sanders Family! Shawn Sanders has been a student at CCDC for many years and his mother, Nicole, volunteers at the school and helps with fundraising. In addition to Nicole's philanthropy, she and her husband Omar along with their other children, Maya and Brandon, help out with the Special Olympics each yearπ₯. From nose to tail, we're exploring the exciting world of butchery!π₯© Culinary students from TCHS Pickering Campus had a fantastic opportunity to learn about the many career paths in the butchery industry at Wyebrook Farm thanks to the Pennsylvania Department of Education, Chester County Economic Development Council, CCRES and Pennsylvania Department of Agriculture. We keep the students in the Transition To Work Program (TWP) engaged!π» They attend CTE classes like Digital Media and Finance in the morning, and in the afternoon they either return to the classroom for travel training instruction or work on individually-defined goals.βοΈ
TWP teachers use the Skills to Pay the Bills curriculum which addresses communication, teamwork, financial literacy, healthy relationships, critical thinking and problem-solving.π§ For many students, this program is a crucial bridge between high school and their next steps, be it enrolling in college or immediately entering the workforce.π For more information about TWP, please email [email protected].
Recently, students from the CCIU Learning Center and the community-based instruction program participated in a full-day Student Leadership Conference. Workshops were held by the National Youth Leadership Council, OnSolve LLC and Wawa to help the students envision themselves as leaders at school, work and in their communities. Yesterday, our Chester County Student Forum members concluded their year with an end-of-the-year banquet with an inspirational message from keynote speaker Senator Carolyn Comitta. The celebration was held at The Desmond Hotel Malvern and included a catered meal, a year in review presented by the student officers, special awards, and the announcement of next year's student forum officers. Thank you to all who attended! We look forward to the first 2023-24 meeting!

Our cafeteria staff ensures that each student has access to healthy meals and nutritious snacks while they're in our buildings. We are thankful for our school lunch heroes, today and every day!β€οΈ

May is Jewish American Heritage Month! To celebrate, we will be highlighting prominent Jewish figures in history.π Elie Wiesel was a Romanian-born American writer, professor, activist, Nobel Peace Prize winner and Holocaust survivor. He wrote 57 books including "Night," which is based on Wiesel's experiences as a Jewish prisoner in the Auschwitz and Buchenwald concentration camps.π
