Student school board representatives bring something no report, presentation, or data point ever can—the lived experience of being a student in our schools today. Their voices help ensure that board discussions remain grounded in the realities of our classrooms, hallways, activities, and school communities. They offer valuable insight, ask important questions, and help bridge the gap between decision-makers and the students most affected by those decisions. Their participation strengthens our work and reminds us that every decision we make should ultimately serve the students we are here to support.
During the June 9 meeting of the School Board of the City of Manassas, OneOsbourn-Osbourn High School students Henok Emun and Lamar Abouelkher were introduced as Student Representatives for the 2026-2027 school year.
Serving in a non-voting, advisory capacity, Student Representatives provide valuable student perspectives on issues and policies that impact MCPS students while gaining firsthand experience in school and local governance.
Pictured with School Board members Dayna-Marie Miles and Lisa Stevens, Henok and Lamar will begin their terms on July 1. Congratulations to both students — we look forward to their contributions in the year ahead!
