The latest information provided to us regarding the potential impact to our area from Hurricane Ian are better than originally expected but we are still on track for a large amount of rainfall and high winds. We are forecasted to receive 4-6 inches of rain as well as winds around 30MPH with higher gusts possible.

With this much rain and wind, localized flooding along with downed trees and power lines are almost inevitable. Here are some steps you can take to stay safe…

Clean / clear out drainpipes on your property to allow water to drain properly.

NEVER approach a downed power line. All lines should be treated as live.

Keep in mind that downed trees could have live power lines entangled in them.

Be prepared to lose power, if you have medical conditions that require power such as oxygen, please make preparations now.

If you use a generator during a power outage, make sure the generator is outside and in a well-ventilated area. You should never run a generator indoors.

Keep phones charged and have batteries and flashlights ready.

If you use candles for light, make sure you have a working smoke alarm. Never leave candles unattended and ensure that they are not too close to combustible materials.

If you live in low lying or flood prone areas, please remain vigilant. Please do not wait for the water to begin to rise before you relocate.

Please do not call 911 to report or inquire on a loss of power. These lines need to remain open for emergencies. Please reach out to your utility provider for a status on your utilities.
