In hoping to make 13 year old Bryson Quinney’s extended hospital stay a little more hospitable, Bryson’s parents are hoping to decorate his room with firefighter memorabilia and patches from across the country.

Bryson was first diagnosed with a birth defect known as Hypoplastic Left Heart Syndrome. He had his first heart surgery when he was just 7 days old.

“He loves it. Not just a kid-type love, but he wants to be a firefighter. He wants a new heart so that he can do that,” said father Eric Quinney

Bryson will be at Primary’s until a heart becomes available. That could happen tonight or it could be several months down the road. Any fire departments that want to add to the collection during Bryson’s extended stay at Primary’s can send patches to this address:

As a parent it’s hard to convince little kids to sleep with the door closed, they always want it open just a little. I do a lot of fire prevention at schools, so one thing I try and stress to the kids is, how important it is to sleep with the doors closed.
Just across the sound there was a fire in New Fairfield. Read and see the pictures below to see what a difference closed doors can make.......
This morning members of New Fairfield’s Fire Departments along with mutual aid departments responded to a residential structure fire. The homeowners and family dog are all doing well. The photos below are a great example of the importance of keeping bedroom doors closed while sleeping. The door pictured in both photos is a hollow core door to a bedroom. While the front of the door is severely damaged the closed door protected the bedroom and its contents. If this were an occupied bedroom the closed door could have saved a life. The cause and origin of the fire are under investigation and believed to be accidental in nature. (Photos shared with homeowners consent)
The first picture is the hallway and the second is from inside the room! Story and pictures from @Town of Newfairfield’s fire Marshals office

Did you know most Pet Masks are able to be connected directly to your bag valve mask to help better assist with ventilation for animals? Some times just using the pet mask isn't enough which is a great reason you might want to become accustomed to utilizing the bag valve mask attachment. Even if the animal does not initially need assisted ventilations it's always easier to have it at the ready just incase things start going south.

2nd photo is the regular pet mask set up with o2 cylinder.

3rd photo is pet mask attached to back valve, connected to the o2 cylinder.

FRIENDLY REMINDER 🚗🚙🚕🧭

WE ARE LOCATED ON FLAGON RD (some still remember it as Flagon Creek Rd) in Prospect, LA, exactly 1.2 miles off Hwy 167, also known as The Pineville Expressway. Exactly 10 miles North of Alexandria.

We are directly off Hwy 167 N, near Marler Ford and the Jena Choctaw Pines Casino. We can also be accessed by Hooper Rd in Tioga, or Simms Airbase Rd near the Pollock Prison.

We have a Pineville address, as do all the homes in this area, and we are right on top of the Parish line. Our neighbors go to both Tioga Schools as well as Grant Schools.

We are NOT FLAGON LOOP near Deville, off Esler Field Rd. GPS can not be trusted if you are on that side of Pineville , nor does it bring you far enough down the correct road. It will ping you too short 🙂.

The map from our page will bring you right here, every time.

I woke up to this news report this morning at the firehouse...

2017 marked the first year that firefighter suicides surpassed LODDs. 2019 marks a new sad statistic: suicides are now DOUBLE the number of LODDs.

We’ve got to be there for each other. We’ve got to talk about the things that are getting to us, but it first starts with trust. You’ve got to build trust among your crew. Be the firefighter you’d want on your crew!

It's gonna be chilly folks! 🌨

Space heaters are behind 32% of house fires. So here are some tips to help you stay safe while warm:
1. Do not plug heaters into power strips or extension cords. They aren't made to handle the energy load of a heater!
2. Keep heaters on a flat, level surface, away from high traffic areas. To prevent them from get hit or knocked over.
3. Do not leave heaters unattended.
4. Avoid use of a heater if the plug is broken or the cord is frayed, worn, or damaged.

What is FLASHOVER?

Flashover is a very rapid transition from local burning of the contents within a compartment to widespread burning of all exposed fuels with that compartment.

Flashover occurs because all the combustible material in the room have been heated to their ignition temperature and there is an almost simultaneous ignition.

A flashover can occur in as little as 90 seconds from the ignition of a residential fire. Not every fire results in a flashover occuring nor is a flashover predictable. In the growth stage the contents of the room are gradually heated to their ignition point. This heating causes pyrolysis of all surfaces in the room adding more flammable vapors to the fire gases. The room's oxygen levels are low but not as low as in the decay stage.

Discuss these Flashover variables with your crew today or next shift and talk about how they relate to a flashover occuring.
- compartment size, small vs large room
- insulation qualities
- ceiling height
- ventilation

We will cover these in a bit more depth in a later post.

LTfirefighters - Lake Travis Fire Fighters

In the first two weeks of 2020, seven roadway responders have been struck and killed in the Line of Duty by vehicles while assisting the public...

These losses end people's lives, destroy families, destabilize departments, and threaten the safety of the public.

We can do better.

Please. Slow down. Move over. And watch for your #LTfirefighters, police officers, sheriffs deputies, emergency medical personnel, and tow truck drivers.

Help us serve you and get home safe to our families.

(Just to clarify, none of the Line of Duty Deaths have occurred in Travis County. The 7 in 14 days is a national statistic.)

Here is the information from this mornings weather briefing with the NWS Shreveport.

Storms will impact much of the area overnight. Make sure you have a way to receive emergency notices that are loud enough to wake you up. This will be a significant weather event. This threat level typically happens only 2-4 days per year. Tornadoes are possible along with 80+ mph hour winds. Hail and flash flooding is also possible. These storms will push east into Saturday.

Here’s a quicker version of an update, as we are now about 24 hours away from the beginning of our severe weather episode. Not much has changed, so I don’t want to rehash all I’ve said, but I do want to let you know what I’m seeing this evening.

Models continue to agree 100% that a strong storm system is headed our way with incredible low level wind strength. I’ve posted the map from roughly 2500 feet up in the atmosphere, and as the squall line approaches, that wind will increase to 70-80 mph. It’ll be pretty easy to transfer severe thunderstorm criteria wind of greater than 58 mph to the surface. That’s the most glaring threat from this system, and will likely impact the most people.

The biggest “what if” with this system is if we will see supercells develop ahead of the main line. Model solutions range from none, to several. Again, none, means the squall line will be able to hold together in a solid line and bring widespread 50-80 mph wind. Several, means there will be a high end severe threat ahead of the line, where all modes of severe weather will be possible. Then there will be a squall line that’ll probably be a bit more tame behind those dangerous supercells.

Like I said, not much has changed. I’ll update around mid morning tomorrow, which will give me all the overnight data, and the early morning stuff. Models are generally locked in on a high threat for severe weather from 9:00 PM until 6:00 AM, with 12:00-6:00 being the highest threat through the center of the area, including Alexandria. Time to watch a little TV with the family, and get some sleep soon after!

Grant Parish Sheriff's Office

We just received an update from the National Weather Service about this weekend’s weather threat.

The greatest concern for Grant Parish is damaging winds (maximum speeds of 70 m.p.h.-80 m.p.h.), tornadoes and hail.

It appears that it will begin in Grant Parish late Friday night (close to midnight) and be out of our area by Saturday morning.

We were told that it is unusual to have this severe of a weather threat in January and this is to be taken seriously.

Please make sure that any objects are secured that may be outside of your home.

We will have extra deputies available along with crews of inmates to help clear the roads as quickly as possible.
Sign up for our free alert system by texting grantparish to 888-777.
