Alison Mackey’s artistic path has been one of curiosity, exploration, and ultimately, finding a medium that truly resonates with her. While studying at College of the Atlantic she immersed herself in every art class available, building a broad foundation across disciplines, and later she apprenticed with a potter.
In 1997, Alison began working for Maine metalsmith Sam Shaw—a pivotal moment that led her to discover jewelry making as her true calling. During this time, she developed a distinctive body of work inspired by nature’s intricate beauty. Using macro photography of flowers and leaves, she created luminous, gem-like elements by sealing the images in silicone resin and setting them in fine metal. The result was a vibrant and unexpected take on traditional jewelry, which she shared widely while traveling the country for seven years, with her work appearing in galleries and museum shops including the Art Institute of Chicago and the de Young Museum.
In 2009, Alison stepped away from metalsmithing to focus on motherhood, embracing a new kind of creative journey. Years later, after moving to Hancock, New Hampshire, she found her way back to the studio—sparked by the inspiration of the Monadnock Art Tour. This return marked the beginning of a new chapter in her work.
Her current jewelry line reflects a deeper, more introspective vision—exploring contrast, transformation, and balance. Through the interplay of oxidized sterling silver and the bright clarity of fine silver, Alison creates pieces that embody both strength and elegance. Bold yet feminine, her work captures the dualities within us all, resulting in jewelry that feels empowering, expressive, and beautifully wearable.
You will be able to see Alison this year on the Monadnock Art Tour!
