We want to wish our Duncanville ISD nurses a Happy School Nurse Day! Our nurses have taken on the extra responsibilities of learning about COVID-19 safety measures and educating school staff and parents. We thank them for their diligence in taking temperatures for students and staff, conducting testing for employees and playing a role in our past vaccination drives. They were some of the first responders who had the opportunity to receive the vaccine early on to protect those around them and themselves. We just can't thank them enough for doing all of this in addition to their regular duties.

In preparation for tomorrow's virtual Employee Appreciation celebration, the Human Resources and Communications departments are distributing awards. When this group of employees sit down with their families to watch the employee recognition event Thursday, they will have their awards. Staff who have reached 25 years of service or more in Duncanville ISD, retirees, and our campus Teachers of the Year are joining us for a drive-through celebration this afternoon. Since we cannot come together in a large group this year, we have had to find creative ways to celebrate our hardworking staff and what better way to show our appreciation than with awards and a goodie bag? Don't forget to tune in tomorrow at 6 p.m. on the district YouTube channel for more recognitions!

State testing continues May 4 - 14 and we are encouraging students to "Show up and Shine" on the STAAR and TELPAS tests. There are a few things parents and students need to know about the state tests. To participate, the Texas Education Agency is requiring students to be physically present at school. For parents, participation will inform you of the pandemic’s impact on your child’s learning, and tells the school if your child is ready for the next grade level. It is also a requirement for high school graduation.

We are committed to providing a safe environment on our campuses during testing. See the graphic below for a breakdown of why your students should test in person. http://ow.ly/d3yC50EeBR4
