La Plata Quilters Guild

La Plata Quilters Guild The La Plata Quilters Guild is a non-profit organization. We invite you to join the La Plata Quilt Guild (LPQG).

All levels of quilters are welcome to share their enthusiasm and quilting talents. LPQG, as a non-profit organization, was incorporated under the laws of the State of Colorado in 1986. Today, the 60 plus members represent a cross section of the community with a common interest in quilting. At LPQG you can expect to meet unique individuals learning about design, color, techniques, the community and

each other. LPQG has an elected Board of Directors who plan and execute guild business. Their responsibilities include budgeting, accounting of guild funds, and assisting in the planning and execution of all activities sponsored by LPQG. Within the guild, established committees plan educational activities and special projects for guild members. LPQG members meet the 4th Thursday of January through October at 5:30 p.m. at Christ the King Lutheran Church, 495 Florida Road in Durango. In November we meet the 3rd Thursday and in December a Saturday Holiday Party is held. Our monthly meetings feature informative programs on various aspects of quilting and may include guest speakers. Also, members have volunteered to sponsor block exchanges, door prizes, challenges, block of the month and mystery quilts. Perhaps the best segment is individuals revealing the “magic” of their quilting projects during show and tell. LPQG sponsors Saturday Workshops which include learning new techniques, helping fellow members and serving the community by making quilts for donations and/or raffling. Every year LPQG FAIR COMMITTEE CHAIR attends meetings to set policy for the Quilt Division of the La Plata County Fair. Committee members check in the quilts, oversee the judging, represent LPQG, and assist the public viewing of the quilts. Programs, community involvement and workshops are financed by the LPQG dues and the fund raising event. Each year the Raffle Community designates the quilt design and with the assistance of other members, it is completed. Involvement in making it, displaying the quilt at community events and selling tickets finance our commitments. Your participation will be sought and definitely appreciated.

Dear all Targets, Kohls, Walmarts, ALDIs, Home Depot’s, Krogers, Jewels & all other stores that have self checkout….

You are heading towards almost exclusively self-checkouts now.

The lady/man checking receipts at the exit was stopping everyone.

I didn't choose to participate in that nonsense, I had already:

🛒filled my cart
🛒emptied my cart
🛒scanned the items
🛒refilled my cart

and so I just skipped the exit line and left.

I heard her saying "umm - Excuse me“ as I kept walking and raised the receipt above my head, leaving the store.

You can either trust me to do self-checkout, or you can put your cashiers back in place like it used to be.

• I'm not interested in proving that I did your job for you.

• If you want me to be a cashier with no training then that's your problem not mine.

• Keep employing young people and give them job opportunities.

YOU DON'T PAY ME TO SCAN MY OWN SHOPPING.

YOU DON’T GIVE ME STAFF DISCOUNTS FOR WORKING FOR YOU.

Signed ......All of us

These are jobs that are needed to have for young and old …..

La Plata Quilter's celebrating the holiday together. Beautiful quilts, good food but most of all celebrating our President Bernie Hall for her stepping forward to fill the shoes of Lynn Bell who had to leave in the middle of her term. Brave woman....and Bernie in her "spare time" was in charge of our holiday party. The Guild made sure she knew how appreiciative we are of her service.

Am so far behind...besides having an old pc makes things tough to keep in touch. But hopefully I will be able to post photo's of the last meeting. If you missed this beautiful presentation you missed quite a lesson in landscapes. An new and different way to build a landscape from a photograph. Cathy and her "helper" Bob were delightful to watch and learn.

Attending the annual Gold Star weekend, this year held in our very own Durango. Mothers and Fathers choosing a quilt for the American Heros, especially our CO heros. Thank goodness for our talented quilters, you made these parents so very grateful. Here are just a few of the parents who chose a quilt.

Well Ladies I am late once again after busy, busy weeks, but here area some photo's of our last Guild Meeting (if I can get this old, old pc to do it's job.) It was a wonderful, informative meeting with Chris Conrad who had a show of her Katishibui Dying Technique. This is a Jamineese dying with Persimmon dye. Beautiful. Hope you enjoy some of the photos.
