Commission Priorities
I believe the commission should be focused on three things:
* Overseeing the fire district budget to support the explosive growth that the district is seeing without impacting the level of service the residents and businesses of the district enjoy today and deserve to enjoy in the future. I commit to focus on the level of service and the financial stability of the district
in all decisions and votes I make while I serve as your commissioner.
* Ensuring we are providing for and doing everything we can to support and improve the lives of our firefighters, employees, and their families. I pledge to always consider what is best for our employees in every decision and vote that I make as commissioner.
* Supporting Chief Tyler Lewis and his deputy chiefs in running one of the best fire departments in the pacific northwest. (Possibly in the entire US) The department is the largest of its kind in Idaho and is also considered to be one of the best. As commissioner, I will do everything I can to support the Chief and the department’s administration to maintain the high standards that are a hallmark of the department today. I will:
* Dedicate myself to listening and learning. I will meet regularly with the Chief and others to understand how the department runs so I can get a citizen’s view of what the department needs. As part of this listening and learning process, I will promise to hold regular “meet the commissioner” events.
* Leverage my extensive experience in budgeting and finance to come up to speed with the district’s financial priorities and work with my fellow commissioners to determine what’s best for the long-term financial security for the district.
* Bring objectivity – a citizen’s and outsider’s view – to every discussion and decision that I will make as a commissioner. I am a budgeting and finance person, not a fire fighter.
* Ensure the commission and the department are thinking creatively about how to conduct business and how to maximize budget dollars.
* Work hard, be smart, and do what’s right for the district and its citizens, always!
* Hold only the commissioner office while I am in office. I will not seek and will not allow myself to be appointed to any other office while I serve as your commissioner. Vote for me because:
* Over thirty years of budgeting and financial management.
* A listen first, open mindedness about all things Eagle Fire District.
* My willingness/eagerness to meet with you, the citizens of the district, on a regular basis to discuss concerns and to give my perspective on how the district is doing and how its plans will ensure the long-term financial stability, support for growth, support for firefighters, their families, and support for fire department leaders.
* My focus is on one and only one office at a time.
* An “outsider’s” perspective. I’m not a politician and I’m not a firefighter. I’m a citizen who wants to represent your thoughts, ideas, and priorities on the Eagle Fire District Commission.
