The Friends of the Kettle Moraine State Forest – Southern Unit is dedicated to preserving, restoring, and supporting the Kettle Moraine State Forest through fundraising, education and promotion of a greater appreciation of the cultural and natural history of the Southern Unit.

The first Saturday in June is National Prairie Day! A day dedicated to celebrating the beauty and ecological value of prairies. We ❤️prairies! Our friends group partners with DNR staff and volunteers to restore prairies and habitats.

Over the past 10 years, some of our previous projects have included:

Thank you to the volunteers who helped us on our first work day! It was a great success. Ten volunteers met at the headquarters parking lot and hiked back to the Titus Sutphen homestead site. They worked to clear invasive from the stone walls in advance of our Heritage Hike planned for June 20th.

Our next volunteer workday is coming up on June 2nd, 9am-noon. We will return to the site to continue clearing brush. Wear sturdy footwear, gardening gloves and dress for the weather. Tools provided.

Meet at the Forest Headquarters, but be prepared to caravan to the location with the best blooms! A different location will be featured each week.

🥾 Waterproof boots are recommended.

Help us clean up the Titus Sutphen Homestead. This 1850’s homesite has an invasive plant problem!

Join us for any or all workdays. It is almost a 1-mile hike to the site where we will be clearing buckthorn or removing other invasive plants.

Be sure to wear pants and protective shoes (no sandals) and bring work gloves and water. Meet at the Forest Headquarters for the walk into the site.
