Wildflower Hike | Missouri State Parks

As we tentatively approach the idea of spring and warmer weather, the Missouri State Park system has some fun outdoor events planned this month. Enjoy the beauty of spring at one of our northwest Missouri state parks.

Find proof positive that spring has sprung on the Wildflower hike this weekend at Knob Noster State Park. Saturday April 7, at 9 a.m., take a guided hike with the Park Naturalists and learn about the newly emerged wildflowers along the trail. This park hosts woodlands, prairie land, and the beautiful Clearfork Creek. https://mostateparks.com/event/71711/wildflower-hike https://www.facebook.com/events/163588247768424/

If the event is canceled, you can experience Missouri nature at the Missouri Animals program at the Livingston County Public Library in Chillicothe. Presented on Monday, April 9 at 6 p.m., this program will cover the various animals of Missouri, and conclude with seeing and feeling a live Missouri animal. https://www.facebook.com/events/2093083474268271/

Join the park naturalist to discover the many wildflowers that can be found in the park. Please wear sturdy hiking shoes as we will be walking on a somewhat hilly trail. Other suggested things to bring include insect repellant, water, camera, hiking stick and a wildflower identification book.

Rolling Pin Bakery

Didn’t get enough sweets on Valentine’s Day? Get some of the best pie available at the Rolling Pin in Glasgow. The Rolling Pin is popular for its signature flaky crust, among many other things. The Coconut Cream Pie is the bakery’s most popular pie. The Rolling Pin is also a great place to have lunch. Glasgow is a scenic, historic river town, located a few hours east of Kansas City. The pie alone is worth the trip, but besides that, Glasgow has a lot of history, and a beautiful downtown area.

Van Meter State Park | Missouri State Parks

Van Meter State Park is a little off the beaten path, but it is the perfect place for a winter hike in Northwest Missouri. The trail is actually steel grating boardwalks that go into the wetlands. Hear the wind rustling through the reeds, or maybe the honk of geese as they fly overhead. Van Meter is also the home to Missouri’s American Indian Cultural Center, a museum devoted to the original nine American Indian tribes of Missouri. https://mostateparks.com/park/van-meter-state-park

Park Information Van Meter State Park features remnants of the Missouria Indian village that sat at the Great Bend of the Missouri River, marked on a map by Jacques Marquette and Louis Jolliet in 1673.
