Ray Walter for Assembly

Ray Walter for Assembly A proven record of protecting what counts for the people of Amherst, Pendleton and the Village of Williamsville. Lower taxes, more jobs, better schools.

Ray Walter was first elected to the New York State Assembly on November 8, 2011 and re-elected in 2012, 2014, and 2016. His district currently includes the Towns of Amherst and Pendleton and the Village of Williamsville. As a practicing attorney focused on elder law and estate planning, Ray observes first hand how our high taxes hurt the most vulnerable members of our community and force the most successful to move out. Ray’s goal has always been to work on behalf of his constituents to bring about necessary changes in government that will ensure future generations will have opportunities to raise their own families in Western New York. He currently serves as the Ranking Minority Member of the Committee on Economic Development and on the Committees on Ways & Means, Health, Insurance, Housing, and Environmental Conservation. For nearly ten years, Ray built a successful career in the private sector before going back to school and pursuing a law degree at the University at Buffalo. During Ray’s time in law school he was very active, serving as a representative to the Student Bar Association, and as President of the local chapter of the Federalist Society. Ray also clerked for the United States Attorney’s Office, the Erie County District Attorney’s Office and for an area law firm, after serving as a research assistant for the Erie County Charter Revision Commission. He graduated magna cm laude, was admitted to practice, and has worked for Magavern Magavern Grimm LLP since 2007. In 2009 Ray was appointed and later elected to the Erie County Legislature where he served until his election to the Assembly. Ray is an active participant in numerous civic and charitable organizations. He enjoys spending time with his sons Ray and Jack and coaching Amherst Youth Basketball and Lou Gehrig Youth Baseball. He previously served on the the board of the Amherst Senior Citizens Foundation, Amherst Traffic Safety Board, the Erie County Cultural Resources Advisory Board, and the County Executive’s Council on Economic Development.

It has been a privilege and an honor to serve the people of the 146th District in the New York State Assembly. A huge thank you to my entire family and all my friends who supported me throughout these last seven years. I especially want to thank my Chief of Staff, Campaign Manager, Treasurer, Finance Chair, scheduler, volunteer coordinator, and chief ass-kicker all wrapped into one Erin Baker. I can’t ever thank you enough for all you have done for me over these last seven years. I also need to thank her other half and the greatest Chairman / political consultant anyone could ever ask for, Nick Langworthy. Your insight and ability is second to none. Thank you to the entire ECGOP team, present and past, for all your efforts on my behalf as well.

Thank you Scott Jordan for all you’ve done helping me get elected in 2011 and three more times after that. To all my staff members over the years (Sean, Forrest, Bridget, Lindsay, MP, Dan, Matt, Bobby, et. al.) who did a lot of work to make me look good for very little pay, Thank You!

There are so many people who have touched my life during my time in the Assembly it would be impossible to thank you all, but know you’re in my heart. Finally to all the constituents out there who we were able to help in some way, Thank You for your cards, notes, letters, emails and phone calls expressing your gratitude. These are the things that really mattered, the things that motivated, sustained, and pushed me to work so hard.

I am forever grateful to all of you for this wonderful opportunity that I’ve had. Although the election may not have gone the way we hoped God has other things planned and I am looking forward to the adventures ahead! God bless you all! ❤️
