For clarification regarding submissions to [email protected] we have not been responding to emails, with very few exception, as we are in the process of collecting opinions and information. Many questions have been asked as part of submissions and we intend to address most of these with a “Frequently Asked Questions” document in the near future. Many of you have also asked for additional information and we will do our best to provide links to reliable and independent information. Any and all studies submitted by residents will also be reviewed and considered. This is a large task and wouldn’t be possible without the cooperation of both the Town and Village governments. Thank you for all of your responses thus far!!

Due to a well-documented increase in tick populations, which has resulted in a significant increase in tick-borne illnesses, and the devastating effects of deforestation, the Town of Aurora and the Village of East Aurora have been working to manage our whitetail deer population. The Town of Aurora participated in the Deer Management Application Program last season through the NYS Department of Environmental Conservation, and this program unfortunately failed to yield any demonstrable results. In an effort to protect our residents, our woodlands, and our environment, the Town and Village intend to pursue a “bait and shoot” program to commence at the conclusion of the 2026/2027 hunting season. This program will be run by trained professionals, with resident safety as a top priority. While this situation is less than ideal, we feel we have no other options. Contraceptive programs come with great expense and no measurable results. Actual sites for this program have yet to be selected. As part of our application to NYSDEC, we are requesting feedback from our residents. Please email [email protected] with your feelings on this matter. You are always free to reach out to any of your elected officials as well, but comments from this email address will be forwarded to the NYSDEC.

EXTRA! EXTRA! READ ALL ABOUT IT! PUBLIC COMPOSTING COMES TO EAST AURORA!!!

Good news for the environment… good news for taxpayers… and another great example of the Village of East Aurora, the Town of Aurora, and Erie County, NY working together to make our community even better!

After the overwhelming success of our cardboard dumpster video, we’ve decided not to rush back into Hollywood just yet. We need to give DPW Foreman Jeff Stoll a little time to adjust to his newfound fame… and for people to stop randomly yelling “No! No! No!” at him on the street.

Now, on to our next project!

Introducing the Plate to Field Food Scrap Drop-Off Program

The Village of East Aurora, Town of Aurora, and Erie County are teaming up to make composting easier than ever.

We’re kicking off this pilot program with 150 FREE countertop compost buckets for residents!

Pick up your free bucket:
• Village of East Aurora residents: Village Office
• Town of Aurora residents: Town Clerk’s Office

(Available while supplies last. One bucket per household. Residents only.)

Beginning August 15
Every Saturday, 9:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m.
East Aurora DPW Drop-Off Site
(The same location as our cardboard dumpster and yard waste drop-off.)

Bring your collected food scraps each Saturday, and we’ll take it from there. In another great example of intermunicipal cooperation, the Village will collect the material, and the Town will transport it to Erie County’s composting facility for composting.

Together, we’re reducing waste, keeping food scraps out of landfills, and creating something useful instead. It’s good for our environment, helps us become a more sustainable community, and demonstrates what can happen when local governments work together.

This is a pilot program, so we’d love to see our community get behind it. If it’s successful, it will help pave the way for even more sustainability initiatives in the future. Thanks to ACES- Aurorans for Climate and Environmental Sense and Raymond M Wrazen for their work on this!

Now let’s see if this program can become as popular as cardboard boxes… although Jeff may be hoping for just a little less celebrity this time…
