This year makes the 9th year that I have been a business owner and a landlord. For years I heard people say they could never do it for many different reasons.

I was a person who said I’d never rent to family or friends, or friends of friends just to avoid conflict. After 8 years of sticking to that I decided to give it a shot and rent to a friend of a friend and now I realize why I have such strict stipulations in place when trying to select a tenant.

Jeremiah Schofield (Keenan Schofield Facebook name) and Tyesha Burger (Tyesha Janea Facebook name) starting renting from me in October of 2024. They were recommended by a good friend so I took a chance. Literally after the 2nd month rent started to be late then eventually stopped coming all together. I have never (in 9 years) had to evict or take any tenants to court. But with them, in less than a year I had to take them twice (the 2nd time they didn’t even show).

As of now they are staying in Wilbrain Apartments but I’m sure that wilI be temporary as well. I post this not to call them out but to make other landlords aware. This seems to be a common thing that they do.

Be careful who you invest in your investments!
