One skill new tax preparers underestimate:
Learning how to INTERVIEW your client.
Tax preparation isn’t:
Client hands you W-2 → you type numbers → print return. 😭
Sometimes the most important information comes from the questions you ask.
“Did you have any other income?”
“Did you start a business?”
“Did you move?”
“Did you get married?”
“Who lived in your household?”
“Did anyone else contribute to maintaining the home?”
“Did you buy Marketplace health insurance?”
“Did you receive any IRS notices?”
And sometimes one answer leads to five more questions. 😂
A tax preparer isn’t just a data-entry person.
You need to learn how to recognize when something requires further investigation.
That’s one of the professional skills I want the preparers working with me to develop.
Already have tax experience and looking for an opportunity this season?
Message me PTIN and tell me how many seasons you’ve prepared. 🧾
