Quick kitchen reminder: Be careful about what you pour down the drain!

Fats, oils and grease (FOG) do not belong in your sink. Even if it goes down as a liquid, it can cool, stick to pipes and cause clogs or sewer backups. Help protect your home and East Moline’s sewer system:

• Wipe greasy pans before washing
• Scrape food scraps into the garbage
• Never pour cooking oil, bacon grease or sauces down the sink

A few simple kitchen habits can go a long way.

One of the QCA sister cities, with an incredible Latin community!

One unpaved block in a small Illinois town sent 57 men to war, and eight of them never came home. 🇺🇸

Second Street in Silvis, Illinois was a block and a half of small houses built by Mexican families who had come north to work the railroad. The street was not even paved. City hall would not pave it for decades. And out of those twenty two households came 57 men who served in World War II and Korea, more per family than almost any street in the United States.

Eight of them were killed. Their mothers watched the same corner every day for a telegram. In 1971 the neighborhood finally got the street renamed Hero Street USA, and it took years of pushing to make even that happen. The families never asked for anything except that somebody remember the names. 🕊️

Is there a street, a block, or a small town in your family's history that gave more than anyone realizes?
