The foundation for a brighter future is officially being built! ✨ Heritage Christian Services broke ground on two new accessible homes in Penfield and North Greece that will provide long-term stability and support for people with intellectual and developmental disabilities as they age. These groundbreakings didn’t just signal the start of a new construction project; they welcomed a future of new possibilities and forever homes for people. 🏠❤️

Designed to support aging in place, these homes will allow people to remain in familiar environments with the friends, family and staff members they know and trust. They will become the 15th and 16th homes that Heritage Christian has built or transformed in the past five years.

For Beth and her family, the project represents peace of mind and the promise of home. "It gives me great comfort in knowing that when I'm no longer here, Beth will have a place where she's comfortable, knows the layout and will be safe," said her mother, Ann Tallman.

Thank you to the government leaders, community partners, donors and supporters who helped make these projects possible, including Jen Lunsford, Senator Jeremy Cooney, Senator Samra Brouk, Assemblyman Josh Jensen and Taylor, The Builders.

Together, we're creating places where people can continue to live lives of purpose, connection and endless possibility.

A small act of kindness can make a big difference. ❤️️ The talented creators at the May St. day hab have been working on a special project in collaboration with the Heritage Christian Services grief support team, which consists of faith community inclusion specialists and clinicians who support people through times of loss.

To help brighten the days of those going through difficult times, people created unique cards, keychains and pendants. The team poured their hearts into every piece, and the impact has been felt far beyond the craft table. Thank you to everyone who helped make these meaningful gifts possible! ✨

Today, we recognize Juneteenth, a day commemorating the end of slavery in the United States and celebrating freedom, resilience and equality. ❤️🖤💚

For Faith Community Inclusion Specialist Joe Starling, Juneteenth is both a celebration and a reminder of our shared humanity. "Even though we all have different lifestyles, backgrounds and goals, we were all created by the same Creator, created in His image," Joe said.

Growing up in Louisville, Kentucky during the 1960s and 1970s, Joe saw firsthand the perseverance and sacrifices of those who came before him.

"I'm grateful for what my ancestors went through and what they fought for," he said. "My parents taught us to treat our fellow brothers and sisters the same, regardless of race, creed, color or background."

Joe sees a direct connection between Juneteenth and the work we do at Heritage Christian Services every day.

"Christ's love was and is inclusive for all. To be inclusive is to include all," he said. "Daily, we strive for equality for all people. We're in this walk together." 🤝

Happy Juneteenth!

The ROCStars, a self-advocacy group supported by Heritage Christian Services, are hard at work to build a foundation for the future! 🌟

At their recent meeting, members decided on the group's guiding principles, including showing respect, listening to different perspectives and making sure everyone has a chance to be heard. They also made plans to attend the Self-Advocacy Association of NYS - SANYS Statewide Page Western New York Regional Picnic this August.

If you’re interested in joining the ROCStars or learning more about self-advocacy, visit HeritageChristianServices.org/fair. You can also join us at our next meetings in person or virtually! This group is open to all allies and advocates.

We’re kicking off Mission Month with a spotlight on the incredible team at the Ellicott Creek day hab! ❤️

Led by Day Hab Manager Darcell Aiken, the team has built a culture rooted in compassion, communication and mutual support. Whether they're coordinating volunteer opportunities, celebrating people’s birthdays or arranging outdoor activities, the staff members act in sync to create a welcoming environment where everyone can thrive.

"We check in with each other, support each other and make sure no one feels like they're doing it alone," said Darcell. "Communication is everything here."

That spirit extends to the people they support. At Ellicott Creek, everyone is encouraged to be themselves, build relationships and work toward their goals in an environment filled with laughter and encouragement.

Darcell describes her team in three words: diverse, compassionate and abundant. Together, they embody what it means to create opportunities for people to live lives of endless possibility. Thank you to the Ellicott Creek team for your commitment to supporting one another and the people you serve! 🌟

New York's primary election is Tuesday, June 23, and the registration deadline is almost here!

📥 The primary is how political parties choose which candidates will appear on the general election ballot in November. To vote in a primary, you must be registered and enrolled in a party.

The deadline to register or update your information is Saturday, June 13. It's quick and can be done online through the NYS Board of Elections. Everyone deserves the right to vote and use their voice – just like the self-advocates across our community that show us every day what it means to speak up for what matters. Take a few minutes today to make sure your voice is part of the conversation.
