Pickering Creek staff have been busy leading Caroline County students in field trips at Tuckahoe State Park to learn about environmental policy. Students explore Tuckahoe State Park’s history with environmental restoration through an augmented reality sandbox, act as a town council debating over a hypothetical development project, and model ecological collapse through a game of jenga. One of Pickering’s most charismatic avian residents, Barred Owls can often be heard hooting their iconic “who cooks for you call” throughout both the day and night in the isolation of Pickering Creek’s forests (though peak activity during visiting hours is early in the morning and just before sunset). When not hunting, Barred Owls tend to rest in dense evergreen trees, well-camouflaged against the trunks.
