I was honored to give the opening remarks for Senator Cory McCray at this special event, held last week at Chesapeake Bay Maritime Museum! McCray's story is a profound testimonial about the transformative potential that work-based learning provides to our students through our internship and apprenticeship programs!

As we approach our nation's 250th Birthday, we have an even more significant milestone right here at home. This weekend, we celebrated Talbot County's 365th birthday! Our annual Talbot Day event was a very special celebration despite the unseasonal chilly temps. Congratulations to all of the Talbot Day Citizen and Service Award honorees and the outstanding Artists who were poster contest winners! I also thoroughly enjoyed the Community Ice Cream Social & Celebration! Well done Talbot County, this is who we are!

I am looking forward to providing the opening remarks at this event, and hearing Mr. McCray's powerful story first hand! Join me next Thursday, April 30 at 5:30 p.m. at the Chesapeake Bay Maritime Museum. The registration link can be found in this post.

The Chesapeake Bay Maritime Museum will present "The Apprenticeship That Saved My Life: An Evening with Cory McCray" on Thursday, April 30, at 5:30 p.m.

Cory V. McCray’s debut book, “The Apprenticeship That Saved My Life,” illuminates how mentorship, skilled trades, and second chances create powerful pathways to success for individuals and communities. Drawing on his journey from growing up in Baltimore to becoming a journeyman electrician and State Senator, McCray offers a practical guide for students exploring apprenticeships and businesses seeking to invest in talent.

Join us on Thursday, April 30, at 5:30 pm in the Van Lennep Auditorium or virtually during National Apprenticeship Week for an in-depth conversation on building stronger foundations for the next generation of workers and leaders, followed by a book signing. This event is generously sponsored by the Upper Shore Regional Folklife Center.
