"We will never forget" is more than a phrase. It is a testament of who we are as people and as a country.

We will never forget the lives we lost on September 11, 2001. On Patriot Day, we also honor the service members who courageously answered the call to defend our Nation.

Anyone have any late summer vacations coming up?! Perhaps to the house of mouse?

Speaking of which, #DidYouKnow that Walt Disney visited Edgewood in January 1942 to show his proposed design for a Mickey Mouse gas mask. About 1,000 Mickey Mouse respirators were eventually produced.

The Greening Program is designed to give Army civilians a taste of what a Soldier’s life is like.

From Army basics such as marching and Army values to more advanced warrior skills such as urban combat tactics and marksmanship, civilians get to feel what it’s like to be a Soldier.

Fall in, Soldiers! Today is the opening day of #Greening2019 at Aberdeen Proving Ground! Over the next five days, Army scientists and engineers will participate in physical activities and team-building exercises designed to give them a taste of life as a #Soldier.

Stay tuned this week as we follow their adventures!

2-263rd Air Defense Artillery Battalion conducts Chemical Agent Detector Colorimetric Reader assessment

In a collaborative effort between the CCDC Chemical Biological Center and Japanese Ministry of Defense (MOD) Advanced Defense Technology Center (ADTeC), the first-generation Chemical Agent Detector Colorimetric Reader (CADCoR) prototype was developed.

Recently, South Carolina National Guard Soldiers participated in a user assessment of CADCoR.

“Soldiers will evaluate the CADCoR through scenario-based exercises to assess the effectiveness and efficacy of the prototype in conjunction with key activities such as data collection, after action reviews (AAR), and surveys to record CADCoR operations and results, said Kerrin Dame, CCDC Chemical Biological Center representative.

ABOUT SMART (Science Mathematics and Research for Transformation):

The SMART Scholarship-for-Service Program was established as a concentrated effort to enhance the Department of Defense (DoD) workforce with talented, innovative and brilliant scientists, engineers and researchers. For over a decade, SMART Scholars have been working within labs and agencies of the Army, Navy, Air Force and Additional DoD to support the warfighter and create an impact to secure our nation.

SMART Scholars enter the program to pursue their education in some of the leading STEM fields currently in high demand by the United States Government. The program offers scholarships for bachelors, masters and PhD students pursuing STEM. While in school, students will receive full tuition, monthly stipends, health insurance and book allowances, as well as summer internships that range from 8 to 12 weeks. Upon degree completion, scholars begin working in a civilian position with their sponsoring facility. The internships and work experience allow scholars the opportunity to learn from the greatest minds in STEM and defense. Not only do scholars pursue their passions in their respective field during their educational phase, but they begin a journey towards an empowering career to protect national security.
