Terry Canales

Terry Canales I am honored to be representing the people of District 40, with your support I will bring much needed jobs and fight tirelessly for your children's education, and women's health.

Terry Canales began his law practice in House District 40, and he has been practicing in Edinburg for almost six years. As an attorney, he is on the frontline of many of the problems that affect our area. “As a life-long rancher and land owner, I know the struggles and needs of the ranching and farming community. I intend to fight hard to defend the rights of landowners and pass legislation to promote the ranching and agricultural industry, which is the cornerstone of our county and district. District 40 needs a voice in Austin...a voice that will speak loudly for our needs! As a husband, father, rancher, businessman and attorney, I have the background, experience and the work ethic to make sure our District is the best it can be now... and even better for our children tomorrow!

Which Louisville Judge Let Police Search Your House? Most Signatures Are Unreadable

I was interviewed yesterday by a Kentucky news station about why police were searching homes with unreadable and untraceable signatures. We don't have this problem in Texas, because in 2015, I passed a bill requiring that magistrate judges who approve search warrants sign in “clearly legible handwriting or in typewritten form with the magistrate’s signature". The measure was in response to a now-disbanded South Texas narcotics task force, called the Panama Unit, that falsified judges’ names on warrants using illegible signatures, then stole drugs, guns and other property from people. #Txlege #RGV

We reviewed more than 230 search warrants approved by Louisville judges. It's unclear who signed nearly three-fourths of them.

Texas officials walk back $15 million proposed cuts to women’s and children's health services

I appreciate our state health officials for wisely reconsidering their plan to cut $15 million in funding from health and safety net programs, including services that offer low-income Texans access to birth control and cancer screenings, and support families of young children with disabilities or developmental delays. Especially during the ongoing pandemic, we should not be considering any kind of cuts for children and families. #Txlege #RGV

The changes to the budget proposal come after lawmakers and advocates protested the previous plan would hurt vulnerable Texans.

Nation’s first Latina university president among RGV’s higher learning building blocks - The Monitor

Powerful read on Dr. Julieta V. Garcia, former President of Texas Southmost College and the University of Texas at Brownsville. Dr. Garcia was the first Latina president of a college or university in the United States. The article serves as a reminder of how one person can have an incredible impact on our Rio Grande Valley community. #RGV #HD40

BROWNSVILLE — Dr. Julieta V. Garcia used her power of persuasion to painstakingly create a university the people of South Texas could call home, only to dissolve it decades later to create a more powerful institution of higher learning. Garcia stared down death, doubters and detractors on her way ...

Mauro Barreiro was my friend. He was a great lawyer, and an even better father. He was larger than life, and found success through education in a time when the barrier to entry for latinos was insurmountable. A legal icon in his own right, Mauro will never be forgotten. I last saw Mauro about 2 months ago wearing his mask, patiently waiting to see his client at the County Jail. He told me how proud he was of his children, and that he would probably never retire from practicing law. Mauro didnt know it then, but he was right, he never retired, he was a great lawyer till the day he left us.

My deepest condolonces and heartfelt sympathy to his family and friends. Till we meet again hermano, I am glad I got to be your friend. TERRY

I want to wish a happy Labor Day to America's workers. To most people, this day is all about BBQ and spending time with their family. Yet, this holiday has its origins in honoring the importance of the American labor movement and how the regular worker helped make our country strong, prosperous, and a world leader. Especially during the ongoing pandemic, I want to thank all of of our essential workers who are keeping our country going in these unprecedented times. Happy Labor Day! #RGV #Txlege

Earlier today, I joined a zoom meeting with my friends in law enforcement at Combined Law Enforcement Associations of Texas, CLEAT to talk about ensuring our First Responders and law enforcement officers are medically and financially protected when they come into contact with COVID-19 in the workplace and contract the virus. Last March, I wrote a letter to Governor Abbott requesting that he issue an executive order to help our First Responders and he has not acted at this time. Currently, our First Responders who catch COVID-19 while on the front lines can lose their wages and be forced to pay their own medical bills for a disease that is hard to be proven to be a work injury.

It is important that we protect not only our First Responders but also our teachers, grocery store workers, government employees and all of our essential workers. We must not abandon our hard working Texans by failing to address these issues. #Txlege #RGV

Hunting and fishing licenses expire at the end of the month, and for those practicing social distancing, buying online for 2020-21 may be the ticket. Hello Mr. Canales, I just want to take the time and thank you for all you do, especially right now with how you are proceeding on the safety of students and staff safety. I am a resident of Harris County and for now, HISD is going to begin classes virtually, but many of us parents and students are worried because not all Harris county districts are following through. For example, I will be working this year for Pasadena ISD and my children will be attending Galena Park ISD. Not only these districts, but others will start virtual or on campus. Can you please help us? Is there anything else on your part that you can do for other districts to follow through like Hidalgo County? Thanks in advance!

What a Blessing All hope in humanity is not lost Last year our family had a scare with Cancer my father inlaw a Vietnam Veteran fought cancer and won the battle. But sadly this year his wife of 51yrs (my mother inlaw) was diagnosed with stage 4 cancer Today we visited Santana's Wigs & Hair Extensions @ 1317 N. 10thSt McAllen Tx While we were there a Beautiful young lady befriended us & we were laughing and trying on wigs as she finished she introduced herself as ERICA CANALES wife of Terry Canales of Edinburgh Tx. Then as she was leaving the cashier informed us she had paid for my mother in-laws wig.. We broke down in tears at such a kind gesture that touched us to the core After all we have been thru her gesture was a Big Blessing.. God is letting us know we are not alone in our Journey... Thank You ERICA CANALES for such a Blessing Words can not describe the Love we felt
Just introducing myself, I am a Democrat running for Texas House of Representatives for District 83 in 2020 https://www.facebook.com/addisonfortx
Shared There’s a glimmer of hope...although brief. CNN admits: “A Twitter account that appears to belong to Dayton mass shooter Connor Betts retweeted extreme left-wing and anti-police posts, as well as tweets supporting Antifa, or anti-fascist, protesters.” He was also an Elizabeth Warren supporter. The El Paso shooter wanted universal basic income and other progressive goodies and beliefs. I wouldn’t call him a conservative or Trump supporter by any stretch, but that’s the overplayed, politically-exploitive narrative. The common thread? They were both mentally ill with a history of warnings and violence.

If detention centers cannot accept donations for children because if the Antideficiency Act, why do prisons accept book donations for prison libraries? And is the IRS aware of this? As I recall, you cam elect to make a donation on the 1040 form. The Antideficiency Act appears to apply to "personal services" with the intent to keep Federal employees from making unauthorized commitments that would obligate the government to pay, such as to accept volunteer workers and later have to pay a claim for wages.
