Army ROTC began operation at our University on March 31, 1980 as an extension center of Texas A&I University (now Texas A&M -Kingsville). However, enrollment grew at such an unprecedented rate that the University of Texas-Pan American became a host ROTC institution on October 1, 1981. A host ROTC institution at this university allows access to an Army officer program to students of the Lower Rio Grande Valley from Brownsville to Rio Grande City. Active Duty as well as Retired Officers and Non-Commissioned Officers serve as Cadre for this organization and are responsible for its operation. A Senior Army Officer entitled the Professor of Military Science (PMS) heads the Department of Military Science. The department is a subordinate element of the College of Social and Behavioral Sciences.

Mission: The Army’s mission is to fight and win our Nation’s wars by providing prompt, sustained land dominance across the full range of military operations and spectrum of conflict in support of combatant commanders. The U.S. Army Cadet Command selects, educates, trains, and commissions college students to be officers and leaders of character in the Total Army; instills the values of citizenship..., national and community service, personal responsibility, and a sense of accomplishment in high school students.

From Disneyland to Fort Knox » Leader Training Course

Prior to his entry into the #ArmyROTC program #LTC Cadet Frank Holiday from the University of Memphis was a performing Tigger at Disneyland in California. Follow the link below to read his story.

Cadet Frank Holiday soared through his physical fitness test, finishing near the top of his company in the two-mile run. Of course, someone has to lead the group but it isn’t always 30-year-old among young college students doing so.

CULP Team-building includes Overcoming Language Barrier In Bulgaria » Cadet Summer Training

Cultural Understanding and Language Proficiency (CULP) is one of the many opportunities the Army ROTC has to offer for the contracted cadets. Below you will find a story about a CULP Team that got sent to Bulgaria. Click below to read more.

We were tasked with overcoming the language barrier, and completing the mission as one team. These challenges included tactical simulations, an exercise akin to our own FLRC (Field Leader’s Reaction Course), and a number of others.

Not only did U.S. Army Reserve Maj. Gen. Leslie Purser observe cadets navigate an obstacle during Cadet Summer Training, but she also did free-falls off a 60-foot tower at the Rappel Tower/Confidence Course → http://bit.ly/T3Lk34.

The Bronc Challenge was designed to foster the relationship between the SROTC and JROTC in South Texas. The Bronc Battalion with the assistance the Ed Rachal Foundation was able to bring 17 high schools, 28 teams and over 300 students and instructors to this amazing event.
The competition consisted of 11 events (10 predetermined and the PMS challenge surprise event) The students conducted a modified physical fitness test, negotiated a series of obstacles as a team, rock wall, rope bridge and tug of war. All events had set point values that ultimately gave a 2014 Bronc Challenge winner.
The students remained motivated throughout the day and were already asking for next year's event.
