Everyday our men and women in blue go out to protect our communities, our highways and our families. They put their lives on the line for those they serve and protect. In the midst of all this sadness, our community has again suffered a great tragedy and we must now mourn the loss of
two brave Mcallen PD officers. My condolences and prayers go out to their families, and colleagues during this difficult time. Rest In Peace Officer I. Chavez and Officer E. Garza.

Second chances are not given to make things right. But are given to prove that we could be better even after we fall. Today, with tears in my eyes, and my face beaming with pride, I had the opportunity to congratulate four graduating HS Seniors who early in life found themselves in the Juvenile justice system. Each of these four graduates have written a story very different then most graduating seniors. Their story includes them overcoming many hardships when the odds were against them. However, along the way they were blessed with the support of their parents, and guidance from their Hidalgo County Juvenile Probation Officer. For them to reach this milestone, it took a village, and I am proud to have been part of that village for two out of the four graduates. I want to also thank Traci Evans for her generosity in gifting each graduate a basket full of goodies. She just like many others involved in the Hidalgo County Juvenile Justice system from Judges, Attorneys, Prosecutors, Juvenile probation officers, detention officers, counselors, and teachers work hard everyday so these success stories can continue to be written. Congratulations to them and all graduating Seniors of the Class of 2020.

The Texas Supreme Court and OCA have stressed to all Judges the importance of utilizing the Zoom
App for purposes of conducting “essential hearings” such as Juvenile Detention hearings. I have updated the Plan of Action for the 449th District Court to include instructions for Attorneys etc on how to log on and utilize the zoom app. Continued prayers for our country, our county and our state.

Last year, a group of amazing women asked if I would be part of the Delta Area Cotillion Committee. Their intentions were to present to the Delta Area (Edcouch, Elsa, La Villa and Monte Alto) some of the most well rounded young ladies from their different high schools. Last night, their dream became a reality! I was honored to be the Co-Master of ceremony, along with Commissioner David Fuentes - Hidalgo County Precinct 1. As we read the debutants’ bios, it was impressive to learn everything these young girls have accomplished in such a short time. Moreover, I will attest that each of them truly represent the Delta Area very well. This event would not have been possible without the help of the DAC committee, our generous sponsors, and individuals like Edna Gonzales Posada and SPA LA POSADA, Selina Reyna and Miriam Contreras!!

“Education is the most powerful weapon you can use to change the world.” Nelson Mandela

Last night, I had the honor of addressing students from Dr Thomas Esparza Elementary who were inducted into the National Elementary Junior Honor Society. I stressed to them the importance of serving others, not only at school or at home, but in their community. I explained how service, responsibility and behavior are just as important as obtaining good grades. These students have already accomplished so much and I congratulate their teachers and parents for the continued support. A special thank you to Principal Pecina and his staff for inviting me to take part in this beautiful ceremony. #ittakesavillage #449th #nejhs

It is my humble honor to share with all of you that I did not draw a challenger in my race for re-election. With the passing of today's deadline, I will remain on the bench of the 449th District Court as the Judge you chose to reform and repair our Juvenile Justice system. The past four years have been more heartbreaking and more rewarding than I ever would have imagined — but the work continues every day to ensure that the most vulnerable citizens of Hidalgo County do not fall through the cracks and to ensure the safety of the public. Again, I promise all of you to do my very best each time I put on this robe over the next four years. Thank you God, my amazing staff, my extremely supportive husband, my beautiful girls, my parents, my entire family and the citizens of Hidalgo County !!

It was my distinct honor to administer the oath of office to Mayor David Suarez of Weslaco. Being elected to his third term as Mayor not only displays the quality of his leadership but also his dedication to public service. I’d also like to congratulate Mayor Pro-tem Letty Lopez and Commissioner Josh Pedraza for winning their re-election bids as well! Hearing every single one of them thank God before anyone else proves that Weslaco is in good hands! Congratulations and God Bless!!!

Today we honor those brave individuals who sacrificed so much for our country. They were soldiers who fought hard and some even lost their lives so we as citizens of this amazing country could continue to engage in the democratic process. The students at ECISD Monte Cristo Elementary experienced this process when they held their very own elections and chose their new Student Council officers. I had the honor of administrating the oath of office to all the newly elected Student Council officers. In addition, I was able to take the time to say Thank you to all the Veterans who were honored by MC Elementary and thank you MC’s principal, Mrs. Diana Cervantes-Smith for allowing me to take part in today’s festivities.

I am and will always be grateful to the citizens of Hidalgo County for giving me the opportunity to serve as Judge of the 449th District Court. I learned so much during my first term in office. I presided over cases which grew my passion for the Juvenile Justice system even more then when I first ran for this position. Therefore, today, surrounded by family and friends, I filed for Re-election to the 449th District Court. I humbly ask once again for your continued support, prayers and vote as I embark on my journey to secure a second term as your Judge of the 449th District Court. #empowerouryouth #judgerenee #teamjudgerenee #reformthesystem #judge449th #weneedhope #ittakesavillage #humblebeginnings #leadership #family #community #hidalgocounty #districtjudge #HidalgoCounty

Yesterday was one of the biggest highlights of my career! I was selected by Addison Cantu, a 4th grader at Arnoldo Cantu Elementary to be the subject of her most influential Hispanic/Latina school project. I was speechless when I walked into her classroom and viewed all the other great poster boards that contained some pretty famous Latinos/Latinas. Thank you Addison, for inviting me to come into your class to share my life story! Everyday, I work hard to be a positive influence for other young Latinas in hopes they will strive to make this world a better place. #psja #449th #addision

Talk about starting this morning on the right foot! I had the privilege to address a group of middle school and high school students @ the 1st Annual Boys & Girls Club Teen Talk: Be kind to your Mind Conference. The goal of this conference was to educate and create community awareness on the importance of Mental Health and Wellness. After my presentation, I was awarded the Child & Adolescent Mental Health Advocate Award. It was a great surprise and I am truly humbled to receive this award. Mental health is an issue that should not be silenced but given a voice so others, especially children can receive the necessary services and resources to continue living a healthy and happy life.

Loved this article written by my colleagues and Co-chairs of the newly formed Dual Status Task Force. The task force was proposed by the Texas Judicial Council in 2018 and operated under the Supreme Court of Texas Children’s Commission. The goal is to bring those involved in both systems (juvenile justice system and child welfare) together and determine what efforts can be made to better serve those youth involved in both systems. I am so proud to be part of this Task Force! What is more exciting is applying these practices to both systems here in Hidalgo County. #dualstatus #allchildrenmatter

I am extremely proud of a tribe of women whom I consider not only as friends but a support group who empower and mentor so many of us. Many of them in these pictures came together to pull off an amazing event which honored some of the most brave individuals who have battled, beat cancer and are beautiful survivors. Friends of Strut for the Cure Style Show did an wonderful job in raising money to help many others with their fight against cancer. Thank you Edna Posada and SPA LA POSADA for always including me in these memorable events!

Tonight, my heart breaks for the family of Trooper Moises Sanchez. Trooper Sanchez was a very brave and honorable individual who chose to protect our country, our community, and our highways. Let us continue to pray for his family during this difficult time. Moreover, as a community let us come together to honor those men and women who place their lives on the line everyday to keep us all safe. Trooper Sanchez you will be missed but you will never be forgotten.

Everyday law enforcement officers put their lives on the line to protect our communities, our highways, our home and more importantly our families. Therefore, it is extremely devastating when an officer’s life is taken while in the line of duty. On behalf of myself, my staff and my family we send our deepest condolences to the family of our fallen hero, City of Mission Police Department and to all the men and women in blue.
May God Bless you!🙏🏻

"Tu Sangre en mi Cuerpo" Angela Aguilar (feat. Pepe Aguilar)

My father is a man who never looks for praises. He is never one to boast about himself but only about his children and his grandchildren. He works hard everyday and does it for those he loves the most. I have never heard him talk about his wants or dreams and most of the time his worries go unspoken. He has been my firm foundation through all the storms of my life. When I was a little girl, my father couldn’t provide us with everything but he provided us with love, security and stability. Thank you Dad for loving me unconditionally and Thank you God for making me his little girl. Also, Happy Father’s Day to every amazing Dad, may your day be full of love and happiness with your family.

The John Austin Pena Clinic is such a valuable resource here in Hidalgo County for so many young people who are battling drug abuse. It was a honor to tour this facility with Adrienne Pena-Garza, the sibling of the late John Austin Pena, and see how dedicated the staff is in providing the resources needed to rehabilitate a child who is just looking for a second chance. I urge school districts, community leaders, elected officials and others to seek out or assist facilities like John Austin Pena Clinic in order to provide more and more options to our trouble youth. #togetherwecanchangetheworld

On behalf of the family of John Austin Peña we would like to send a warm thank you to Judge Renee Rodriguez-Betancourt for visiting the facility today and of course the incredible staff and interns at the John Austin Peña Memorial Center. You are all doing an amazing service to our community! We can not thank you enough!! These kids need to know that we believe in them and fully understand that they have a second chance here, one that many unfortunately don’t get.
