Hon. Keno Vasquez, State District Judge 398th State District Court
Keno is a longtime resident of Hidalgo County and a high school graduate of Marine Military Academy in Harlingen, Texas. After high school graduation, Keno attended Texas A&M University, College Station, where he earned a B.A. in Political Science, and went on to receive a Juris Doctorate from Texas Southern University, Thurgood Marshall School of Law, Houston. While in law school, Keno met his wife, Dr. Celina Vasquez. They have been married for 21 years years and have three children: Olivia, Alejandro, and Andrea. He chose to return to Hidalgo County where he worked as a practicing attorney for 19 years, before taking the bench in 2016. As an attorney, Keno worked for a civil defense firm before establishing his own private practice and being admitted to practice in the United States District Court, Southern District of Texas. Keno’s long history of service is a reflection of his upbringing and humble beginnings. Keno attributes this commitment to his parents, Maria Enriqueta “Keta” (Canche) Vasquez and the late Dr. Librado “Keno” Vasquez. They instilled the value of hard work, professionalism, and the importance of giving back to our community. While attending Texas A&M University, Keno donated his time as a tutor in an after-school program for economically disadvantaged students. He also taught at Diaz Junior High, Hidalgo, Texas. He is a faithful parishioner at Our Lady of Sorrows (OLS) Catholic Church and is a member of the ACTS community. He participates in the OLS ministries of Adoration and Hospitality. Keno also donates his time to the McAllen Youth Soccer Association, and is a POP Warner football coach and sponsor. He participates with Relay for Life and is a proud Sponsor of the Boys and Girls Club of America, Future Farmers of America (FFA), and Covenant Christian Academy. As a sole legal practitioner, Keno manages state and federal criminal cases, family law disputes, and civil cases. He has also developed the discipline to handle the full range of administrative duties that come with being a business owner. Dealing with all of these aspects of a law office requires effective organization and time management skills, as well as the ability to wholeheartedly deal with many different types of individuals. Representing clients on a daily basis has allowed Keno to build a rapport with them and enabled his clients to trust him and his legal expertise. Keno will exemplify all of these qualities in the courtroom in order to run an efficient court docket where all sides are treated fair and equal. Keno believes in equality, fairness, and respect of the law and the people it protects. He knows that for many people, this is “their day in court.” He will hold his courtroom to the highest level of integrity, equal opportunity, and knowledge of the law to support the decision-making process. His experience as an attorney, his work ethic, and his desire to serve the community has given him the tools to be your next State District Judge. One of the best ways to encourage youth to take the right path is to expose them to real consequences for being involved or getting convinced to participate in criminal activity. The court in schools program does just that. Allow me to thank Mission CISD for affording me and my staff to bring this message to their schools. Special thanks to Ricardo Rodriguez, District Attorney, Eddie Guerra, Hidalgo County Sheriff, The Hidalgo County Department of Community Supervision, and members of the defense bar for supporting these efforts.
