Today, we pause to honor and remember Sergeant Michael Domingo Paredes and Officer Joseph Anthony Santana of the El Monte Police Department, who made the ultimate sacrifice in the line of duty on June 14, 2022.

Their courage, dedication, and selfless service to our community will never be forgotten. As we reflect on their legacy, we also remember the families, friends, and fellow officers who continue to carry their memory with them every day.

The City of El Monte stands united in gratitude and remembrance, honoring two heroes whose commitment to protecting others came at the highest cost.

May we never forget their sacrifice, and may their legacy continue to inspire generations to come.

Yesterday, the El Monte Police Department proudly celebrated the graduation of T.O.R.C.H. Class #51. Over the course of this transformative 13-week program, participants demonstrated dedication, growth, and a commitment to making positive choices for their future.

Through the continued partnership between the City of El Monte and the El Monte Police Department, T.O.R.C.H. continues to empower our youth, build character, and create opportunities for success, making a lasting difference one step at a time.

We extend our sincere gratitude to our elected representatives, including Susan Rubio, for their continued support and investment in the future of our community’s youth.

The El Monte Police Department Traffic Safety Bureau will be conducting a DUI checkpoint tomorrow, Friday May 29, 2026 between 6 p.m. and 2 a.m.

The El Monte Police Department reminds you to drink responsibly and to have a designated driver. This operation is funded by the Office of Traffic Safety.

The El Monte Police Department Traffic Safety Bureau will be conducting a DUI checkpoint tomorrow, Friday, May 29, 2026, from 6:00 p.m. to 2:00 a.m.

The El Monte Police Department encourages everyone to drink responsibly and always plan for a safe ride home by using a designated driver, rideshare service, or taxi.

This operation is funded by a grant from the Office of Traffic Safety.

Councilwoman Marisol Cortez surprised our TORCH students with a special visit this morning, demonstrating her continued commitment to supporting youth programs and positive community engagement.

The Teaching Obedience, Respect, Courage, and Honor (TORCH) program is designed to provide mentorship, corrective behavior support, motivation, exposure to trade school opportunities, and encouragement for students to continue making positive choices and succeeding academically.

The El Monte Police Department appreciates Councilwoman Cortez for taking the time to connect with our students and for her ongoing support of initiatives that help guide and inspire the next generation of leaders.

Drones have become an important tool in modern law enforcement, helping us respond more safely and effectively in our community.

We use this technology during burglary alarm calls to check rooftops, conduct interior searches when properties have been tampered with, and assist in locating suspects. By utilizing drones, we can gather critical information quickly while reducing potential risks to both officers and residents.

Our goal is to continue using innovative technology to enhance public safety, strengthen our response capabilities, and help keep our community safe.

We are proud to share that Detective Richard Gonzalez has been honored by the El Monte Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 10218 as Law Enforcement Officer of the Year. This recognition is especially meaningful as he was also selected as the overall district and state winner.

This achievement reflects Detective Gonzalez’s dedication, professionalism, and commitment to serving our community. His work makes a meaningful difference in keeping our neighborhoods safe.

We extend our sincere appreciation to VFW Post 10218 for their ongoing support and for recognizing the service of our department. Congratulations to Detective Gonzalez on this outstanding achievement.

The City of El Monte is proud to welcome Officers Chad Cole, Jeremy Herrera, and Ricardo Mendez as the newest members of the El Monte Police Department.

Officers Cole, Herrera, and Mendez began their journey as police recruits and successfully graduated from the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Academy, Class 488.
