The DoD COVID-19 Vaccine has arrived at WBAMC and we stand ready to support the whole-of-nation effort to protect our people, maintain readiness, and support the national COVID-19 response.

WBAMC will be following the DoD’s Population Schema in prioritizing who will get the vaccine. This means our healthcare force and emergency personnel will be afforded the opportunity to receive the vaccine first.

Daily command emails have been sent to all WBAMC staff with information about the distribution plan. If you are WBAMC staff, healthcare personnel and emergency services, it is imperative that you communicate with your supervisor or chain of command to prepare for receiving the vaccine. Questions can be sent via FaceBook Messenger to protect your privacy and to adhere to HIPAA.

The Department of Defense has received the Food and Drug Administration’s emergency use authorization and William Beaumont Army Medical Center (WBAMC) anticipates the arrival of the COVID-19 vaccine.

“William Beaumont has been postured and ready for a vaccine arrival for some time,” said Col. Michael S. Oshiki, WBAMC hospital commander. “When it arrives, we will be following the DoD’s distribution plan, which means the vaccine will first be offered to our healthcare personnel and first responders who are on the frontlines of the battle against COVID. We are committed to protecting our beneficiaries and staff, maintaining readiness for Fort Bliss, Texas, and supporting the national COVID-19 response.”

Vaccines approved for emergency use are offered on a voluntary basis. All DoD personnel are encouraged to take the vaccine to protect their health, their families, their community, and lower the public health risks associated with the COVID-19 pandemic.

The currently approved COVID-19 vaccines will be given in a two-dose series separated by either 21 or 28 days, depending on the product. Vaccines from different manufacturers are not interchangeable. To benefit from the vaccination, beneficiaries must receive the same vaccine for both doses. We encourage our beneficiaries to communicate with their healthcare team to get the right dose at the right time.

“Vaccines are one of the most important accomplishments in medicine,” said Oshiki. “Taking the vaccine protects you, your community, and the Nation.”

Flu Vaccine | TRICARE

Due to a delay in receiving vaccines and the need to prioritize active duty units, the Freedom Crossing Flu Vaccination drives that were previously announced have been canceled. We apologize for any inconvenience this may cause. However, beneficiaries can obtain vaccines at their assigned clinic and it only takes a moment to call and schedule an appointment. Call 915-742-2273 to schedule an appointment for you and your family to receive the vaccine. Beneficiaries can also receive the flu vaccine at any participating network pharmacy in the community of El Paso. Click here to learn more: https://www.tricare.mil/CoveredServices/IsItCovered/FluVaccine

We are still working to provide more flu drives in the month of December. When finalized, we will announce them on our social media pages.
