Hudspeth County Sheriff’s Office, DPS, Dell Valley EMS, Dell Valley Fire Department and Texas Rescue Patrol / Desert Haven EMS responded to a motor Vehicle accident early this morning. As of the writing of this post crews were still on scene clearing the roadway. Expect delays on Hwy 62/180 at mile marker 81 in both directions.
Yesterday, we spent the day working with our friends in Hudspeth County and today we spent the day working with our friends in El Paso County. We assisted the El Paso County Sheriff’s Office on a couple of calls and hung out a little bit with our friends from Montana Vista Fire Rescue and DPS. It looks like a lot of folks decided to celebrate a day early. There were a lot of people in the Montana Vista area and it wasn’t even 4th of July yet.
Today we had the privilege of being invited to attend the graduation ceremony for the El Paso County Sheriffs Office Peace Officer Academy. It was an honor to see new Deputy Sheriffs and Fire Marshall’s taking the Oath of Office. These brave Men and Women have worked hard to earn the badge that they proudly wear over their hearts. We pray for their safety and wish every one of them success in their new careers.
Our agency is blessed to have access to an amazing fleet of off-road vehicles. We’ve used these vehicles to assist agencies throughout the region. From rescue operations along the border to assisting investigators on homicide cases, these off-road Vehicles have been an invaluable asset. Proper training and safety equipment is key. If you own an ATV we encourage you to attend our next Free ATV Rider Safety class on May 14th 2022 at 10am. Visit at www.ATVsafety.org to sign up.
As we move into our 5th year, we want to thank all of you for your continued support. TEXAS RESCUE PATROL has come a long way since 2017. We would not be here without the Lords good grace and all of our dedicated volunteers, regional partners, friends, donors and community members who support our cause. “Proudly Serving Texas Communities” isn’t just a catchy phrase we printed on the back of our trucks…it actually means something to each of us. Our community is always at the forefront of everything we do. We are honored to be helping where we can and serving you.
Stay in the loop on what’s happening at Texas Rescue Patrol. We post videos weekly. Please follow us on Tik-Tok.

Emergency crews from Hudspeth County Sheriff’s Office, DPS, Border Patrol, Dell Valley EMS, Desert Haven Fire Rescue and Texas Rescue Patrol worked into the early morning hours to clear the roadway on Hwy 62/180. Lanes were closed in both directions for a short time after a multi-vehicle collision. The highway was re-opened at approximately 06:35hrs.
Texas Rescue Patrol volunteers spotted three different Western Diamondback Rattlesnakes (in three separate locations) near Red Sands today. This is their home so it’s no surprise to see them out in the desert. The Western diamondback rattlesnake (Crotalus atrox) has a triangular shaped head. It has dark diamond-shaped patterns along it’s back. The tail has black and white bands just above the rattles. Rattlesnakes generally tend to avoid humans but can strike if startled or cornered. It’s best to leave them alone if you see them and never try to pick them up.
Rain showers are common this time of the year along our Borderland. Sadly, we also see an increase in motor vehicle accidents. Here are 5 Safety Tips to follow when driving in the rain (courtesy of TDI):
(1) Make sure tires have enough air pressure and tread. Check windshield wipers to see if they need to be replaced. If possible, avoid driving during heavy thunderstorms.
(2)Turn on your lights
Rain makes it harder for other drivers to see your vehicle, so make sure to turn on your headlights.
(3) Don't rush
Reduce speed by one-third on wet roads and increase to a three-second following distance.
(4)Avoid skidding
If you start to lose control of the car, ease off the gas pedal until you regain traction and turn the steering wheel in the direction you're skidding. Avoid hard braking and taking sharp turns.
(5)Turn around, don't drown
It is never safe to drive into flood waters. Just 12 inches of rushing water can carry away a small car and only two feet of rushing water can carry away most vehicles.
Today our team was at San Felipe OHV Park with University Medical Center of El Paso, TXTEAMM, El Paso County Parks & Recreation, BorderRAC, William Beaumont Medical Center and Game Wardens. Instructors Carol & Cody Smith provided ATV Rider Safety courses to youth in our community. Upon successful completion of the course, the kids were given a brand new helmet, riding jersey and goggles. We want to thank Yamaha for providing funding for this initiative and thank Xochitl Gamboa and Carol Smith for their leadership. Our coalition of partners is committed to bringing ATV Safety and awareness to youth within our community.
Did you miss the clean-up this morning? No worries! The Roll-Off Dumpster will be at the entrance to Red Sands for 7-days. All we ask is that you fill up at least one trash bag this week. We have free trash bags at our station. Do your part and encourage others to keep our desert clean! We want to thank TNTfireworks for sponsoring this clean-up event. We also want to thank Volunteers from TNT Fireworks, Eastwood HighSchool, Dooms Day and Texas Rescue Patrol for spending hours today picking up trash.
A deer crossing the highway was a contributing factor on this early morning motor vehicle accident. When traveling on rural roads be especially mindful of wildlife. Deer are most active at dusk and dawn.
Nobody is going to clean-up after you. So why leave it?
We want to thank American Eagle Paintball Inc. for allowing us to use their facilities as a staging point for EMS services, which allowed us to safely transfer patient care to authorities. We also want to thank Apache Barricade & Sign for the amazing scene lighting they provided. If you’re an agency that’s in the market for scene lighting, we highly encourage you take take a closer look at some of these portable scene lighting stands that you can purchase from Apache 915-592-6619.
4th of July is one of the busiest days of the year for Texas Rescue Patrol Volunteers. Some of our Volunteers worked from 8am-4am the following day without stopping. This year we handled 14 calls for service which was lower than the 20-30 calls we handled in previous years. We could not have done this without the help of Montana Vista Fire Rescue, Life Ambulance, El Paso County Sheriff’s Office, El Paso County Constables Office, ProAction Emergency Services Institute, American Eagle Paintball, Apache Barricades and our amazing Volunteers. Special thanks to Shawn Llorca for donating all of the food and grilling for us all night. Like every agency mentioned above, we have a passion for serving our community and I’m very proud of what we have been able to accomplish since starting our agency just 4-years ago. We have come a long way and we have much more work to do. Thank you for supporting us. We are dedicated to serving you.
This morning, we had an opportunity to visit our friends in Sierra Blanca. The community held a 4th of July Parade and several agencies participated in the parade, including Hudspeth County Sheriff’s Office, U.S Border Patrol, DPS, Northern Hudspeth County EMS, Sierra Blanca Fire Rescue, Fire-Med Services, and Blue Origin ERT. Over the last 24-hours, this community was hit with flash floods, but that didn’t stop this resilient and proud community from coming out to celebrate our nations Independence Day. We were honored to participate.
Several agencies came together in Sierra Blanca tonight to rescue & treat numerous individuals who needed medical attention along the U.S/Mexico Border. Hudspeth County Sheriff Deputies and BP Agents performed the initial rescue in the rugged terrain, while Northern Hudspeth County EMS coordinated with multiple agencies to stage and prepare to triage the incoming sick & injured. It was a great privilege to work with so many knowledgeable and dedicated professionals from this multi-agency response.

We were at our station today in El Paso and almost thought we were in for some interesting weather. Stay safe out there.
After clearing from a motor vehicle accident in Hudspeth County... our First Responders ran into a little problem on their way back to El Paso. It can happen to anyone. The good news.... we bought 4 brand new tires for this truck right after we put the spare on. Want to thank Deputy Lazcano and Constable Chaparro for stopping to help.
One of the best parts of being a Volunteer with Texas Rescue Patrol is working alongside of some of the most amazing people in public safety to help rescue and save lives. We get to work with so many amazing agencies across two counties and are exposed to so many different kinds of calls. Last night we had the great privilege of working with Border Patrol Agents and Hudspeth County Sheriff Deputies to help save lives along the border. This is what they do every single night. You just don’t get to read about it as often as other stories that take center stage. People are literally just left to fend for themselves in the harsh elements of our borderland. Often, water runs out and they succumb to the intense heat. Many of them do not make it out alive. However, last night the people who were rescued will survive to tell their tale. #HudspethCountySheriff #USBorderPatrolBigBendSector #TexasRescuePatrol
